December 4, 2018 – Alberta immigration has moved to give more time to international students and institutions to adjust to new Alberta Opportunity Stream requirements.
Under the change, the list of approved post-secondary credentials for Post-Graduate Work Permit holders does not take effect until April 1, 2019.
Those enrolled before this date in programs not on the approved list still qualify for the stream provided they meet other requirements.
After this date, PGWP holders will only be considered if their course is on the list.
However, they can still apply to the Alberta Opportunity Stream with a work permit backed by a positive Labour Market Impact Assessment. They may also qualify for Alberta immigration through Alberta Express Entry.
A provincial statement said: “The Alberta government is extending the transition period for the Alberta Opportunity Stream List of Alberta Advanced Education Approved Post-Secondary Credentials to allow students and post-secondary institutions further time to adjust.”
