Why did you decide to become an immigration lawyer?
Shortly after I was admitted to the Quebec Bar, I was introduced by a colleague to join the late David Cohen who had a niche immigration practice to Quebec. The opportunity was unique especially given there were not many immigration practitioners in Canada, at the time.
What’s one thing you’d change about the immigration system if you could?
The process of admitting economic class immigrants for permanent residence needs to be carefully re-assessed with input from a broad range of contributors from industry and academia, to ensure there is a strong correlation between who is admitted to Canada and how the economy benefits from the human capital and skills that immigrants bring.
Why is immigration important for Canada?
Studies confirm that immigration is an important tool to help combat labour shortages, promote economic growth, foster cultural diversity and support various programs to sustain a strong tax base.
What is your bucket list place to travel to?
I am fortunate to have travelled to many places in the world. I would like to spend time travelling on an outdoor adventure experience to Argentina and Peru.
As an ambassador for Canada, what are you most proud of?
I am proud of our county’s commitment to inclusivity, diversity and compassion; that we have a reputation as a global leader in welcoming people from all walks of life, regardless of their background, ethnicity, religion or orientation and that Canada consistently demonstrates its commitment and contribution, across various measures, to help make the world a better place.
