Canada’s economy lost almost 20,000 jobs in April, with the gain of almost 47,000 full-time jobs offset by the loss of 66,000 part-time jobs during the month. The drop in part time positions is partly due to retail chains Target and Future Shop ceasing operations in Canada, with the retail sector posting a loss of 20,500 workers overall. According to Statistics Canada, the unemployment rate stayed steady at 6.8%.
