Alberta immigration authorities announced a pause on new applications under all streams and categories of immigration effective August 27th 2015 until January 27th 2016.
The announcement by AINP is a reactive measure to manage a growing inventory of pending applications which it terms as an “oversubscription”, with approximately 10,000 applications awaiting assessment.
With demand for AINP far exceeding the annual allocation of 5,500 nomination certificates for 2015, the province was forced to take these measures.
Authorities assert that a pause on new applications will allow AINP the required time to reduce wait times for pending applicants awaiting decisions. The pause will also provide an opportunity for policy planners to make improvements to its programs.
Applicants who planned on applying to AINP must now wait until the pause has ended.
However, skilled workers who qualify for one of the federal immigration programs, such as the Canadian Experience Class, Federal Skilled Worker Program or Federal Skilled Trades Program, are encouraged to apply through the Express Entry system.
