May 19, 2017 – Skilled workers were again favoured in the British Columbia immigration office’s latest BC PNP draw, conducted on May 10, 2017.
Of the total 364 invitations to apply issued, 192 of them went to skilled workers under both B.C.’s Canada Express Entry and provincial-only categories.
Following a shift towards international graduates at the end of 2016 and beginning of 2017, the province is now redressing the balance.
There were still 125 invites for graduates under the latest B.C. draw, while 47 invites went to entry level and semi-skilled workers.

The previous B.C. draw on April 19, 2017, saw an even split between skilled workers and graduates, with a smaller overall number of invites issued.
Of a total 222 invites for British Columbia immigration, 85 of them went to skilled workers and 75 to international graduates. Entry level and semi-skilled workers received 46 invites, with the final 16 going under the province’s entrepreneur stream.

A coveted provincial nomination effectively guarantees selection under the Canada Express Entry System, worth 600 Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) points. Canada has not seen a draw with a minimum points score above 500 in the whole of 2017.
The BC PNP publishes the scores immigrants need to guarantee an invitation for Canada immigration under its programs.
The score needed for an international graduate is 30 points below a skilled worker under both the Canada Express Entry and provincial stream.
For entry-level and semi-skilled workers, that score is lower again.
