Canada Invites 300 Transport Workers in First Express Entry Draw Under Revamped Category

Canada has held its first Express Entry draw under the rebuilt Transport occupations category, issuing 300 Invitations to Apply (ITAs) on August 7, 2026. The minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score required was 470 — a notably high threshold for a category-based round, and the highest cut-off recorded in any Transport draw since the category was first used in 2023.

The round closed out an unusually busy stretch of four Express Entry draws in four consecutive days, following the August 4 Provincial Nominee Program draw (507 ITAs at 768), the August 5 Canadian Experience Class draw (3,000 ITAs at 516) and the August 6 French-language proficiency draw (5,000 ITAs at 391).

Full Details of the August 7 Transport Occupations Draw

To be considered in this round, candidates needed a CRS score of at least 470 and must have submitted their Express Entry profile before 2:55 p.m. UTC on October 11, 2025. Where more than one candidate sits at the cut-off score, the tie-breaking rule uses the date and time the profile was submitted — so candidates who reached 470 but registered after that timestamp were not invited this time.

That tie-break timestamp is worth a second look. It reaches back almost ten months, which is far further than most 2026 rounds and a strong signal that the number of profiles meeting the new Transport eligibility rules is still small. With only four occupations now qualifying, IRCC had to draw deep into the available pool to fill 300 seats.

Why the Cut-Off Was So High

At 470, this round sits well above the CRS thresholds that category-based selection normally produces. The August 6 French-language round cleared at 391, and the June 25 healthcare and social services round cleared at 475. Category-based draws usually let candidates in below the general-round range precisely because the eligible group is narrow — but that only works when the eligible group is also deep.

The rebuilt Transport category is neither wide nor deep. It covers four occupations, all of them technical trades concentrated in aviation and vehicle maintenance. Candidates in these roles who are already in Canada and hold Canadian work experience tend to carry high CRS scores, which pushes the cut-off up rather than down. The result is a category round that behaves more like a program-specific round.

Who Qualifies for Transport Occupations Draws

To be eligible for a Transport category round, you must have accumulated at least 12 months of full-time work experience (or the part-time equivalent) within the past three years in a single occupation from the list below. The experience does not need to be continuous, and it can have been gained in Canada or abroad. You must also already be eligible for one of the three programs managed through Express Entry and hold a valid profile in the pool.

This list is materially different from the one that applied when Transport draws ran in 2023 and 2024. IRCC removed the Transport category from category-based selection in February 2025 and reintroduced it in February 2026 with a completely revised set of eligible occupations, tightening the focus onto aviation maintenance, flight crew and heavy-vehicle mechanical trades. The August 7 round was the 46th Express Entry draw of 2026 and the 434th since the system launched in January 2015. IRCC has now issued 113,423 ITAs this year across the following draw types:

Selections this year have leaned heavily toward candidates already in Canada — provincial nominees and those with Canadian work experience account for the two largest shares by a wide margin. The reactivation of a category that had been dormant for 18 months also suggests IRCC is prepared to use the full slate of 2026 categories rather than concentrating invitations in two or three.
