Canada Invites 2,000 Canadian Experience Class Candidates in September 1 Express Entry Draw

Canada has invited 2,000 Canadian Experience Class (CEC) candidates to apply for permanent residence in an Express Entry round held on September 1, 2026. The minimum Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score required was 521.

This was the 439th Express Entry round overall and the 51st of 2026. At 521, it is the second-highest CEC cut-off of the year, behind only the 523 recorded in the August 18 CEC round.

Candidates needed a CRS score of at least 521 to be invited. Where more than one candidate sat at 521, the tie-breaking rule applied: only those who submitted their Express Entry profile before 03:24:13 UTC on August 18, 2026 received an invitation.

That tie-break date falls exactly two weeks before the round itself — a narrow window, and a sign that candidates are clearing the 521 threshold quickly rather than sitting in the pool. Profiles created after mid-August at that score were left for the next round.

CEC Cut-Off Scores Are Still Climbing

The Canadian Experience Class stream is reserved for candidates with at least one year of skilled work experience in Canada, and it has become the workhorse of the Express Entry system in 2026. It has also become steadily harder to enter.

CEC cut-offs opened the year in the 507 to 511 band. Since late May, every CEC round has closed at 516 or above, and the last two have finished at 523 and 521. The direction of travel is clear: the in-Canada pool is deep enough that IRCC can issue thousands of invitations without reaching below 515.

The pool distribution explains why. As of August 30, 2026, there were 19,542 candidates scoring between 501 and 600 out of a total of 226,673 profiles. A round of 2,000 invitations takes only about a tenth of that band, which is what holds the floor in the low 520s.

Across those 15 rounds, IRCC has issued 51,250 invitations to Canadian Experience Class candidates in 2026 — more than 40 per cent of all Express Entry invitations this year.

The September 1 round opens the month after the busiest August on record for Express Entry. It brings the 2026 running total to 122,427 invitations across 51 rounds, already well beyond any previous full year of Express Entry operations.

Who Qualifies for the Canadian Experience Class

To be eligible for the Canadian Experience Class, a candidate must have at least one year of full-time skilled work experience in Canada — or the part-time equivalent — gained in the three years before applying, in a job classified under TEER 0, 1, 2 or 3 of the National Occupational Classification.

Language requirements are Canadian Language Benchmark 7 for TEER 0 and TEER 1 occupations, and CLB 5 for TEER 2 and TEER 3 occupations. Candidates must also hold a valid Express Entry profile, and the Canadian work experience must have been gained with authorization.
