Canada Immigration Fees for Getting Your Permanent Resident Status
The authorities require principal applicants (with some exceptions) and spouses and common-law partners coming with them to Canada to pay this fee. Applicants would need to pay this fee before:
- Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) issues the permanent resident visa or,
- The applicant becomes a permanent resident in Canada
Officers would need to note that the following individuals do not need to pay this fee:
- The dependent children of a principal applicant or sponsor, a child to be adopted or an orphaned brother, sister, niece, nephew or grandchild and,
- Protected persons including Convention refugees

Note:
- The Open Work Permit: In most cases, applicants would need to pay the open work permit holder fee at the same time when they pay the work permit fee
- The Maximum Work Permit Fee: To be eligible for the maximum fee, a group of three or more performing artists and their staff would need to apply at the same time and the same place. However, performing artists and their staff who also need a visa (i.e. temporary resident visas) would still need to pay the appropriate fees for each individual. It is worth noting that the maximum visa fee only applies to families.
- The authorities require citizens of certain countries and territories to give their biometrics i.e. fingerprints and photographs, when these individuals apply for:
- Visitor visas
- Study permits or,
- Work permits
