It means Canadian businesses needing qualified workers not available in Canada can access candidates in 10-14 days.
Managers or professionals required for a short period of 15 or 30 days qualify for a work permit exemption.

These new policies, launched in June 2017, have resulted in thousands of highly-skilled workers already hired and working in Canada.
These workers have helped businesses grow, in turn boosting the Canadian economy.
Once in Canada, the skilled workers can quickly apply for permanent residence. This gives start-ups a key retention tool.
The credentials of managers and professionals already in Canada would normally lead to a fast Invitation to Apply (ITA) for permanent residence under Canada Express Entry.
Who Qualifies for Two Week Canada Work Permit Processing?
1) Highly-skilled workers exempt from requiring a Labour Market Impact Assessment.
LMIA-exempt work permits are issued through the International Mobility Program.
To access two-week processing, the worker must meet the following requirements:
- Apply from outside Canada.
- Job must be classified as 0 (managerial) or A (professional) under the National Occupational Classification.
- A job offer must have been given using the Employer Portal and the employer compliance fee paid.
2) Highly-skilled workers who require a Labour Market Impact Assessment.
Workers for positions requiring an LMIA can access two-week Canada work permit processing via the Global Talent Stream.
To access two-week processing, the worker must meet the following requirements:
- Apply from outside Canada.
- Have a positive Global Talent Stream LMIA.
The Global Talent Stream is part of the Temporary Foreign Worker Program.
To access the Global Talent Stream employers must be referred by a designated partner or hire from a list of 13 targeted occupations.

3) Spouses and dependents
Spouses, common law partners and dependent children of highly-skilled workers also qualify for two-week processing.

Who Qualifies for Short Term Work Permit Exemptions?
Managers and professionals can access short-term work permit exemptions.
Exemptions are granted for up to 15 or 30 calendar days once every six or 12 months.
The exemption is aimed at employers who need high-skilled workers to perform short-term work of critical importance to their business.
Whether applying at a visa off or Port of Entry, a candidate must provide documents to show the short-term exemption applies. These documents should include:
- A formal job offer.
- Letter from employer describing duties, NOC code and period of employment.
Researchers also qualify for a work permit exemption for up to 120 days. It must be for work at a public, degree-granting institution, or an affiliate of a public, degree-granting institution.
