Record-breaking immigration and solid economic growth in New Brunswick last year left the Atlantic Canadian province in good financial shape, poised for even further job growth particularly in the public sector this year.
“We still expect upward job market momentum to continue given the province’s job skew towards public services, in which sectors still have relatively high job vacancy rates,” forecasts TD Economics.
Employment in New Brunswick is expected to grow by 1.7 per cent this year.

1. Registered Nurses (NOC 31301)
New Brunswick is, like all the provinces, facing a shortage of nurses as evidenced by the 175 job ads for nurses in that province on Indeed.ca, a job-hunting website, in early May.
Despite universities graduating nurses every year, this labour shortage is actually getting worse across the country.
“For registered nurses and registered psychiatric nurses, over the period 2022-2031, new job openings (arising from expansion demand and replacement demand) are expected to total 155,400 , while 143,700 new job seekers (arising from school leavers, immigration and mobility) are expected to be available to fill them,” reports Job Bank, a job-hunting and career-planning website operated by the federal government.
These are the medical professionals who provide direct nursing care to patients, deliver health education programs and provide consultative services regarding issues relevant to the practice of nursing.
This occupation comes with a median annual wage of $78,000 in New Brunswick based on a 37.5-hour work week, according to Job Bank data.
2. Cooks (NOC 63200)
Cooks are among the most in-demand workers in New Brunswick with 241 job ads for them on the Indeed website in early May.
With a median annual income of $29,835 for a cook in New Brunswick, it’s not the highest-paying work but there are jobs in the hospitality sector everywhere throughout the province.
3. Carpenter (NOC 72310)
The people who construct, erect, install, maintain and repair structures and components of structures made of wood, wood substitutes, lightweight steel and other materials are in hot demand by construction companies in New Brunswick.
In early May, Indeed listed 100 jobs for carpenters, jobs that pay a median annual income of $44,850 based on a 37.5-hour work week, in New Brunswick.
Demand for carpenters is growing across Canada.

The people who make patrons’ visits to restaurants, hotels, bars, taverns, private clubs, banquet halls and similar establishments so pleasant are in big demand in New Brunswick.
In early May, Indeed listed 111 jobs for food and beverage servers, jobs that pay a median annual income of $29,835 based on a 37.5-hour work week, in New Brunswick.
5. Administrative Assistants (NOC 13110)
With 102 jobs for administrative assistants available in New Brunswick on the Indeed website in May and projected labour shortage growth of 11,000 of these office workers across Canada over the coming seven years, there is a lot of opportunity in this field.
“For administrative assistants, over the period 2022-2031, new job openings (arising from expansion demand and replacement demand) are expected to total 68,200, while 57,200 new job seekers (arising from school leavers, immigration and mobility) are expected to be available to fill them,” forecasts Job Bank.

6. Business Managers – Sales And Advertising (NOC 10022)
Business managers in sales, advertising and marketing are in great demand in New Brunswick as companies attempt to innovate and deploy campaigns to drive up sales.
There were 810 job openings listed on Indeed for managers in New Brunswick in early May with that demand only expected to grow over the next seven years.
“For advertising, marketing and public relations managers and other business services managers, over the period 2022-2031, new job openings (arising from expansion demand and replacement demand) are expected to total 23,200 , while 21,800 new job seekers (arising from school leavers, immigration and mobility) are expected to be available to fill them,” notes Job Bank.
The median annual income for these managers in New Brunswick is $84,376 based on a 37.5-hour work week, data from Job Bank reveals.
7. Heavy Equipment Mechanic (NOC 72401)
Employed by both private and public sector, heavy-duty equipment mechanics repair, troubleshoot, adjust, overhaul and maintain mobile heavy-duty equipment used in construction, transportation, forestry, mining, oil and gas, material handling, landscaping, land clearing, farming and similar activities.
In early May, there were 221 job ads for mechanics in New Brunswick on Indeed.ca and the labour shortage in this field is only expected to grow.
“For heavy-duty equipment mechanics, over the period 2022-2031, new job openings (arising from expansion demand and replacement demand) are expected to total 25,000, while 22,800 new job seekers (arising from school leavers, immigration and mobility) are expected to be available to fill them,” reports Job Bank.
In New Brunswick, heavy-equipment mechanics earn a median annual income of $55,809.
8. Driver (NOC 73300) (NOC 73301) (NOC 74102)
A serious shortage for truckers and drivers in New Brunswick has led to 236 job postings for these workers on Indeed in early May.
And demand is growing.
“For couriers, messengers and door-to-door distributors, over the period 2022-2031, new job openings (arising from expansion demand and replacement demand) are expected to total 7,500, while 6,200 new job seekers (arising from school leavers, immigration and mobility) are expected to be available to fill them,” notes Job Bank.
In New Brunswick, drivers earn a median annual wage of $37,498 based on a standard, 37.5-hour work week, Job Bank data indicates.
9. Warehouse Worker (NOC 75101)
With the growth in New Brunswick’s population and rise in its exports, the demand for goods storage across the supply chain is driving a need for more warehouse workers, notes Randstad Canada.
“With the high demand, many job opportunities are available for both skilled and unskilled workers,” notes the human resources giant.
In New Brunswick, there were 176 warehousing jobs posted on Indeed in early May with a median annual income of $35,100.
10. Construction Worker (NOC 75110)
Construction companies are clamouring for more workers as there is an acute labour shortage in this sector in New Brunswick.
In early May, Indeed listed 642 construction jobs that Job Bank reveals pay a median annual income of $37,050 based on a standard work week.
“For trades helpers and labourers, over the period 2022-2031, new job openings (arising from expansion demand and replacement demand) are expected to total 19,600, while 17,900 new job seekers (arising from school leavers, immigration and mobility) are expected to be available to fill them,” notes Job Bank.
