Alberta has lifted restrictions on hiring temporary foreign workers in the province, a move it says is \u2018to help employers meet their workforce needs\u2019.<\/p>\n
As of May 1, 2022, the process has removed all occupations that were on a \u2018refusal to process\u2019 list, part of the province\u2019s COVID-19 response to prioritize jobs for Albertans.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis supports sectors of Alberta\u2019s economy that are experiencing labour shortages and struggling to fill available positions with Canadian workers,\u201d a provincial statement said.<\/p>\n
The latest Statistics Canada figures show Alberta had more than 88,000 job vacancies in February.<\/p>\n

However, it will not affect the Alberta Opportunity Stream<\/span><\/a>, through which the refusal to process list has not applied since 2020.<\/p>\n The change does not affect Alberta\u2019s list of ineligible occupations<\/span><\/a> for the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program<\/span><\/a> (AAIP).<\/span><\/p>\n Alberta recently renamed and revamped the AAIP, also launching two new Canada immigration streams.<\/p>\n In February, the Rural Renewal Stream<\/span><\/a> and the Rural Entrepreneur Stream<\/span><\/a> were added to the existing five streams offered under the newly-named AAIP.<\/p>\n The province also renamed three of its existing streams:<\/p>\n Alberta Premier Jason Kenney, a former federal immigration minister, launched the revamp at the Fairness for Newcomers Summit in Calgary.<\/p>\n He said at the time: \u201cWe\u2019re determined to get more than our share of newcomers.<\/p>\n \u201cNewcomers don\u2019t take jobs away from Albertans but help to create jobs.<\/p>\n \u201cThey create additional demand, they create additional wealth and, very typically, they create additional businesses that hire people.\u201d<\/p>\n Watch Canada Immigration Video<\/b><\/p>\n
