Starting in January 2022, however, all inbound foreign national travelers crossing U.S. land ports of entry or ferry terminals, whether for essential or non-essential reasons, must be fully-vaccinated for COVID-19 and provide related proof of vaccination,\u201d states the American border agency on its website.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3 class=\"p1\" id=\"mcetoc_1fju49hk52\">Video: Canada Immigration Policies 2021-2022<\/h3>\n<p><iframe width=\"560\" height=\"315\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/kosXiqfsKCg\" title=\"YouTube video player\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p class=\"p1\">That\u2019s good news for fully-vaxxed Canadian snowbirds \u2013 and those with family near the border.\u201cThis is good news for businesses and families that have suffered under the continued border shutdown,\u201d tweeted New York Congressman Brian Higgins when the re-opening was first announced.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">By Monday, the U.S. border will have been closed to non-essential travel for 19 months and 19 days, since March 21 last year.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"p1\" id=\"mcetoc_1fju48n4b1\">Border Re-Opening Does Little For Day-Tripping Canadians<\/h3>\n<p class=\"p1\">But the re-opening of the border to non-essential travel does little to those Canadians who live near the United States and like to hop across the border for a bit of shopping.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Everyone entering Canada still has to submit information into ArriveCAN using the app or website within 72 hours of their planned entry into the country and provide their:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"ul1\">\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s4\"><\/span>pre-arrival COVID-19 molecular test result;<\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s4\"><\/span>travel and contact information;<\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s4\"><\/span>14-day travel history;<\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s4\"><\/span>quarantine plan (if required);<\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s4\"><\/span>vaccination information (for fully vaccinated travellers); and<\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s4\"><\/span>COVID-19 symptom self-assessment.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"p1\">Those PCR tests costs between $150 and $300, effectively making day trips to the United States to cash in on lower retail prices south of the border a waste of time for most shoppers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">On Twitter, the need for the PCR tests to re-enter Canada has many furious.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cStill need a PCR test coming home even though double-vaccinated. It\u2019s BS!\u201d complained one Twitter user. \u201cEnough of this!\u201d<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"p1\" id=\"mcetoc_1fju48k4u0\">PCR Requirement Is Overkill, Say Some<\/h3>\n<p class=\"p1\">In another tweet another user called on Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to do away with the PCR tests, claiming these do nothing but enrich American companies that administer the tests.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cLet\u2019s eliminate the PCR tests coming home to Canada. Vaccines work. Stop making Americans richer!\u201d she wrote.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Others complain the requirement that the traveller be fully-vaccinated is itself unfair since the vaccines do not prevent all transmission of Covid-19.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cIt should be open for all, not contingent on vax status,\u201d tweeted one user. \u201cThere are still many families separated due to this discriminatory policy. Since the vaccine doesn&rsquo;t stop transmission, at the very least, a family exemption or a negative test should suffice.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The Frontier Duty Free Association (FDFA), an association representing Canada&rsquo;s land border duty-free stores, agrees.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cOur road to recovery also depends on Canadian government eliminating the negative PCR test requirement,\u201d the association tweeted.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The Future Borders Coalition, an organization promoting efficiency and security at the border, has supported the re-opening but indicated it wants more information on how everything will play out.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cWe await details on testing protocols and other entry requirements.
