{"id":82892,"date":"2021-01-11T22:56:33","date_gmt":"2021-01-12T03:56:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/immigrationca.staging.wpengine.com\/manitoba-government-launches-new-department-with-aim-to-boost-immigration"},"modified":"2021-10-18T10:15:13","modified_gmt":"2021-10-18T14:15:13","slug":"manitoba-government-launches-new-department-with-aim-to-boost-immigration","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/fr\/manitoba-government-launches-new-department-with-aim-to-boost-immigration\/","title":{"rendered":"Manitoba Government Launches New Department With Aim to Boost Immigration"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/Brian-Pallister-1-300x217.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"217\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-90112\" srcset=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/Brian-Pallister-1-300x217.jpeg 300w, https:\/\/immigration.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/Brian-Pallister-1.jpeg 380w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><br \/>\nManitoba Premier Brian Pallister announced a new department of advanced education, skills and immigration this month as part of the Canadian Prairie province\u2019s bid to boost its COVID-19-stricken economy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur pandemic recovery plan is focused on getting people back to work and ensuring new job opportunities for young Manitobans and new immigrants we welcome into our province,\u201d said Pallister.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis new department will focus on aligning advanced educational institutions with the needs of the labour markets of today and tomorrow by giving young Manitobans the skills they need to succeed and new immigrants the job opportunities our province can offer.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Lac du Bonnet MLA Wayne Ewasko, a long-time teacher and guidance counsellor, is the minister overseeing the new department.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><b>Read More<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span><a href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/canada-offers-permanent-residence-lifeline-to-former-international-students-with-expired-pgwps\">Canada Offers Permanent Residence Lifeline To Former International Students With Expired PGWPs<\/a><\/span><span><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/cut-canada-immigration-application-processing-times-urges-labour-mobility-think-tank\">Cut Canada Immigration Application Processing Times, Urges Labour Mobility Think-Tank<\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/negative-covid-19-test-now-needed-before-boarding-plane-to-come-to-canada\">Negative COVID-19 Test Now Needed Before Boarding Plane to Come to Canada<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>Manitoba announced the new department during a cabinet shuffle that saw nine ministers sworn in.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p>The newly-created Department of Advanced Education, Skills and Immigration\u2019s mandate includes attracting and welcoming more immigrants to Manitoba through the province\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/manitoba-immigration\"><span>Provincial Nominee Program<\/span><\/a> and its connection with community partners.<\/p>\n<p>The department is being created to promote access to Manitoba universities and colleges as part of a bid to give more economic and social opportunities to the province\u2019s graduates and immigrants.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p>The province is hoping the new, stand-alone ministry will also:<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span><\/span><span>ensure greater linkages and alignment between the offerings of Manitoba\u2019s advanced educational institutions and the skills needed to equip the labour force of the future;<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span><\/span><span>deliver student aid and financial assistance programs and bursaries that reward and create more educational opportunities for young Manitobans, and;<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\"> <\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span><\/span><span>take a leadership role in developing and delivering quality, relevant skills programming that will increase the participation of Manitobans in the economy through greater adult learning and literacy.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Last year, Manitoba sent out 5,105 Letters of Advice to Apply (LAA) in 26 draws. Upon receipt of an LAA, the prospective immigrant has 60 days to log into his or her account and gain access to the full Manitoba PNP application and complete it.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p>In 2020, 3,914 of those LAAs were issued under the <a href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/manitoba-immigration#sm\"><span>Skilled Worker in Manitoba Stream<\/span><\/a> (SWM) which selects foreign-trained workers with the required skills for specific employers and nominates those candidates for permanent residence in Canada. That stream prioritizes candidates with a strong attachment to Manitoba, with two pathways to Manitoba immigration.<\/p>\n<p>That same year, Manitoba issued 603 LAAs through its International Education Stream (IES) which is for international graduates of Manitoban colleges and universities.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\"> <\/span><\/p>\n<p>Manitoba also issued 588 LAAs last year through its Skilled Worker Overseas Stream (SWO) which includes both a dedicated Canada Express Entry Pathway and a direct provincial pathway. The SWO is for international skilled workers with skills and training in Manitoba\u2019s in-demand occupations.
