{"id":79492,"date":"2020-08-31T12:43:05","date_gmt":"2020-08-31T16:43:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/immigrationca.staging.wpengine.com\/canada-extends-coronavirus-international-travel-restrictions"},"modified":"2020-08-31T12:43:05","modified_gmt":"2020-08-31T16:43:05","slug":"canada-extends-coronavirus-international-travel-restrictions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/fr\/canada-extends-coronavirus-international-travel-restrictions\/","title":{"rendered":"Canada Extends Coronavirus International Travel Restrictions"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\">Canada has moved to extend <a href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/canada-clarifies-which-workers-are-allowed-to-enter-country\"><span class=\"s1\">international travel restrictions<\/span><\/a> in place due to the coronavirus pandemic.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The decision to extend the restrictions until September 30 was announced Friday on Twitter by Bill Blair, Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">It means the restrictions will now be in place for at least six months, after initially being imposed in March.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cOur government is extending the existing restrictions on international travel to Canada by one month \u2013 until September 30, 2020 \u2013 to limit the introduction and spread of COVID-19 in our communities,\u201d Blair said on Twitter.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The restrictions cover travellers arriving from a foreign country other than the United States. The travel ban affecting the <a href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/canada-u-s-border-closure-extended-until-september-21\"><span class=\"s1\">Canada-U.S. border<\/span><\/a> is covered by a separate agreement, that currently expires on September 21.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The following people can currently travel to Canada:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"ul1\">\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s2\"><\/span>Citizens and permanent residents.<\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s2\"><\/span>Work permit holders travelling for non-optional and non-discretionary reasons.<\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s2\"><\/span>International students who held a valid study permit, or had been approved for a study permit, on March 18, 2020, who are travelling for non-optional and non-discretionary reasons.<\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s2\"><\/span>Permanent resident applicants who had been approved for permanent residence before the travel restrictions were announced on March 18, 2020, but who had not yet travelled to Canada.<\/li>\n<li class=\"li2\"><span class=\"s3\"><a href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/explained-canadas-new-exemption-for-family-members-of-citizens-and-permanent-residents\"><span class=\"s4\">Immediate family members of Canadian citizens and permanent residents<\/span><\/a><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p class=\"p1\"><b>Read More<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s5\"><a href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/canada-clarifies-which-workers-are-allowed-to-enter-country\">Canada Clarifies Which Workers are Allowed to Enter Country<\/a><\/span><span class=\"s6\"><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/canada-u-s-border-closure-extended-until-september-21\"><span class=\"s1\">Canada-U.S. Border Closure Extended Until September 21<\/span><\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/coronavirus-trudeau-says-canada-to-be-cautious-with-reopening-of-borders\"><span class=\"s1\">Coronavirus: Trudeau Says Canada to be Cautious with Reopening of Borders<\/span><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p class=\"p1\">Anyone entering Canada is still required to quarantine for 14 days on arrival and provide CBSA officers with a viable quarantine plan.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Canada\u2019s monthly immigration levels continued to recover in June, with more than 19,000 new permanent resident arrivals welcomed, according to the latest available federal government figures.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The total is a 75 percent increase on the nearly 11,000 newcomers welcomed in May, but still significantly down on the more than 34,000 admissions in June 2019.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">New \u2018arrivals\u2019 can either be candidates already in Canada transitioning from a temporary status, or those from overseas who were approved before March 18.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/New-Permanent-Resident-Admissions-to-Canada-by-Month-2.jpg\" alt=\"New Permanent Resident Admissions \u000bto Canada by Month\" width=\"515\" height=\"309\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-79483\" srcset=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/New-Permanent-Resident-Admissions-to-Canada-by-Month-2.jpg 750w, https:\/\/immigration.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/New-Permanent-Resident-Admissions-to-Canada-by-Month-2-300x180.jpg 300w, https:\/\/immigration.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/08\/New-Permanent-Resident-Admissions-to-Canada-by-Month-2-280x168.jpg 280w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 515px) 100vw, 515px\" \/><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p class=\"p1\">Figures for the first six months of the year show Canada has now fallen well behind its target of 341,000 new permanent resident arrivals in 2020.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Between January and June, Canada welcomed 103,420 new immigrants, down from 160,230 in the same period of 2019.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The drop off in numbers all came in the second quarter as coronavirus restrictions fully took hold, with 34,260 newcomers welcomed in 2020, compared to 94,275 in 2019.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Canada has moved to extend international travel restrictions in place due to the coronavirus pandemic.
