{"id":79350,"date":"2020-08-24T19:50:40","date_gmt":"2020-08-24T23:50:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/immigrationca.staging.wpengine.com\/ottawa-aims-to-help-canada-employers-hire-visitors-with-temporary-policy-change"},"modified":"2022-04-07T10:19:39","modified_gmt":"2022-04-07T14:19:39","slug":"ottawa-aims-to-help-canada-employers-hire-visitors-with-temporary-policy-change","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/fr\/ottawa-aims-to-help-canada-employers-hire-visitors-with-temporary-policy-change\/","title":{"rendered":"Ottawa Aims to Help Canada Employers Hire Visitors with Temporary Policy Change"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\">Ottawa has introduced a temporary public policy to allow visitors to apply for a <a href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/fr\/visa-de-travail-canadien-travailler-au-canada\"><span class=\"s1\">work permit<\/span><\/a> without needing to leave Canada.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The move announced on Monday, August 24, is designed to benefit employers having difficulty finding workers and allow temporary residents to contribute to the COVID-19 economic recovery.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Previously, visitors already in Canada when approved for a work permit would need to leave Canada and return before their paperwork was issued.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p class=\"p1\"><b>Read More<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s2\"><a href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/fr\/atlantic-immigration-pilot-candidates-submit-work-permit-applications-online\">Atlantic Immigration Pilot Candidates: Submit Work Permit Applications Online<\/a><\/span><span class=\"s3\"><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/fr\/canada-extends-spousal-open-work-permit-pilot-to-make-it-permanent\"><span class=\"s1\">Canada Extends Spousal Open Work Permit Pilot, to Make it Permanent<\/span><\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/fr\/canada-supports-international-students-with-important-work-permit-change\"><span class=\"s1\">Canada Supports International Students With Important Work Permit Change<\/span><\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/fr\/quebec-employers-allowed-to-change-work-permit-candidate-on-positive-lmia\"><span class=\"s1\">Quebec Employers Allowed to Change Work Permit Candidate on Positive LMIA<\/span><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p class=\"p1\">The new temporary public policy takes effect immediately.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cWe have heard from employers who continue to face challenges recruiting and hiring the workers they need during the pandemic,\u201d said Immigration Minister Marco Mendicino.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cAt the same time, some visitors in Canada may be able to contribute their skills where there are labour shortages.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cThis exemption from the normal temporary work permit requirements is aimed at removing barriers to create a more agile workforce that leverages visitors with the skills and experience to accelerate our economic recovery.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The change could help candidates in a number of different situations due to the COVID-19 pandemic, including:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"ul1\">\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s4\"><\/span>Visitors who have been unable to leave.<\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s4\"><\/span>Foreign workers who had to change their status to visitor because their work permit was expiring and they didn\u2019t have a job offer to be able to apply for a new work permit.<\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s4\"><\/span>Employers facing ongoing labour and skills shortages during the pandemic.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"p1\">To qualify, applicants must:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"ul1\">\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s4\"><\/span>Have valid status in Canada as a visitor on August 24, 2020 and remain in Canada.<\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s4\"><\/span>Have a job offer.<\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s4\"><\/span>Submit an application for an employer-specific work permit that is supported by a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) or an LMIA-exempt offer of employment, no later than March 31, 2021.<\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><span class=\"s4\"><\/span>Meet all other standard admissibility criteria.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"p1\">Candidates who meet the criteria and held a valid work permit in the last 12 months can be working for their new employer while their application is being processed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The policy is open to any visitor who meets the criteria, including super visa holders, business visitors and those who entered via a Global Skills Strategy work permit exemption.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Candidates arriving in Canada as visitors after August 24 are not eligible.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ottawa has introduced a temporary public policy to allow visitors to apply for a work permit without needing to leave Canada.
