{"id":78453,"date":"2020-07-08T13:32:45","date_gmt":"2020-07-08T17:32:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/immigrationca.staging.wpengine.com\/coronavirus-british-columbia-caps-time-applications-can-be-put-on-hold"},"modified":"2020-07-08T13:32:45","modified_gmt":"2020-07-08T17:32:45","slug":"coronavirus-british-columbia-caps-time-applications-can-be-put-on-hold","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/fr\/coronavirus-british-columbia-caps-time-applications-can-be-put-on-hold\/","title":{"rendered":"Coronavirus: British Columbia Caps Time Applications Can Be Put On Hold"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span>British Columbia immigration has capped the amount of time a candidate\u2019s application can be held if they lose their job due to coronavirus.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>While applications can be held for up to 24 weeks, the <a href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/british-columbia-immigration\/\">British Columbia Provincial Nominee Program<\/a> says that period cannot go beyond August 30, 2020.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>A statement issued on Tuesday, July 7 said the decision was \u201cto align with the recent change to the temporary layoff provisions of the Employment Standards Act (ESA)\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cApplicants whose employment has been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic are able to place their applications on hold for up to 24 weeks, but not beyond August 30, 2020,\u201d the statement said.<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Read More<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span><a href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/coronavirus-how-canadas-provincial-immigration-programs-are-reacting\">UPDATED Coronavirus: How Canada\u2019s Provincial Immigration Programs Are Reacting<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>The BC PNP issued the following guidance for various scenarios:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span>Candidates whose employment situation has changed are required to immediately notify the BC PNP. If they have already applied, the application will be placed on hold.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>Candidates whose employment situation has changed and have received an invitation to apply but not yet applied, can submit their application and then ask for it to be placed on hold.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>Where a candidate does not meet program criteria at the end of the hold period, they should withdraw their application. If the application is not withdrawn, it will be assessed against program criteria and no refund will be given. <\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>Candidates who were laid off and recalled to the same position and same employer before August 30, 2020, and within 24 weeks, will have their application assessed against program criteria.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>Where candidates have a new job offer from a new employer, the new employer is required to demonstrate they have tried to recruit an existing Canadian citizen or permanent resident.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span>The BC PNP has continued to conduct weekly draws to invite skilled worker and international graduate candidates for its direct provincial and Express Entry-linked streams.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Officials have conducted both general draws and BC PNP Tech Pilot draws, which focus on 29 in-demand technology occupations.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The general draws have excluded 31 occupations which have recently received a high volume of invitations, as a response to the impact of coronavirus lockdowns.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Those occupations are:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span>0621 \u2013 Retail and wholesale trade managers<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>0631 \u2013 Restaurant and food service managers<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>0632 \u2013 Accommodation service managers<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>0651 \u2013 Managers in customer and personal services, n.e.c.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>3236 \u2013 Massage therapists<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>6211 \u2013 Retail sales supervisors<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>6311 \u2013 Food service supervisors<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>6313 \u2013 Accommodation, travel, tourism and related services supervisors<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>6321 \u2013 Chefs<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>6322 \u2013 Cooks<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>6341 \u2013 Hairstylists and barbers<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>6421 \u2013 Retail salespersons<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>6511 \u2013 Ma\u00eetres d\u2019h\u00f4tel and hosts\/hostesses<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>6512 \u2013 Bartenders<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>6513 \u2013 Food and beverage servers<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>6521 \u2013 Travel counsellors<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>6522 \u2013 Pursers and flight attendants<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>6523 \u2013 Airline ticket and service agents<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>6524 \u2013 Ground and water transport ticket agents, cargo service representatives and related clerks<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>6525 \u2013 Hotel front desk clerks<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>6531 \u2013 Tour and travel guides<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>6532 \u2013 Outdoor sport and recreational guides<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>6533 \u2013 Casino occupations<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>6562 \u2013 Estheticians, electrologists and related occupations<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>6564 \u2013 Other personal service occupations<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>6611 \u2013 Cashiers<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>6621 \u2013 Service station attendants<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>6711 \u2013 Food counter attendants, kitchen helpers and related support occupations<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>6721 \u2013 Support occupations in accommodation, travel and facilities set-up services<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>6722 \u2013 Operators and attendants in amusement, recreation and sport<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>6731 \u2013\u00a0Light duty cleaners<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>British Columbia immigration has capped the amount of time a candidate\u2019s application can be held if they lose their job due to coronavirus.
