{"id":78276,"date":"2020-06-30T15:40:56","date_gmt":"2020-06-30T19:40:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/immigrationca.staging.wpengine.com\/canada-to-extend-foreign-traveller-entry-ban-until-end-of-july"},"modified":"2020-06-30T15:42:51","modified_gmt":"2020-06-30T19:42:51","slug":"canada-to-extend-foreign-traveller-entry-ban-until-end-of-july","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/fr\/canada-to-extend-foreign-traveller-entry-ban-until-end-of-july\/","title":{"rendered":"Canada to Extend Foreign Traveller Entry Ban Until End of July"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span>Canada is set to extend its <a href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/coronavirus-trudeau-says-canada-to-be-cautious-with-reopening-of-borders\">entry ban on all foreign travellers<\/a> to prevent the spread of coronavirus for another month, until July 31, 2020.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The restrictions, barring entry to all except citizens and permanent residents \u2013 with some exemptions \u2013 was due to expire at the end of June.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>However, a Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) spokesperson has confirmed to CBC News that the restrictions will be extended.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The restrictions cover travellers arriving from a foreign country other than the United States. The travel ban affecting the Canada-U.S. border is covered by a separate agreement, that currently expires on July 21.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Canada currently has <a href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/coronavirus-tfws-certain-international-students-and-approved-prs-can-now-travel-to-canada\">exemptions<\/a> in place for:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span>Seasonal agricultural workers, fish\/seafood workers, caregivers and all other temporary foreign workers.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>International students who held a valid study permit, or had been approved for a study permit, when the travel restrictions took effect on March 18, 2020.<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span>Permanent resident applicants who had been approved for permanent residence before the travel restrictions were announced on March 18, 2020, but who had not yet travelled to Canada.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span><a href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/explained-canadas-new-exemption-for-family-members-of-citizens-and-permanent-residents\">Immediate family members of Canadian citizens and permanent residents are also exempt<\/a> if entering to be with an immediate family member for at least 15 days.<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong><span>Read More<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span><a href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/canada-clarifies-which-workers-are-allowed-to-enter-country\">Canada Clarifies Which Workers are Allowed to Enter Country<\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/canada-u-s-border-to-remain-closed-until-july-21\">Canada-U.S. Border to Remain Closed Until July 21<\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/canada-reopens-certain-visa-application-centres-as-coronavirus-restrictions-ease\">Canada Reopens Certain Visa Application Centres as Coronavirus Restrictions Ease<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><span>There had been speculation that Canada could expand exemptions to travellers from certain countries with a low number of COVID-19 cases.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>On Monday, the European Union announced Canada as one of the countries on its \u2018safe\u2019 list of 15 countries from which it would allow tourists to enter from this week.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>However, the EU also says it expects the countries on its list \u2013 which does not include the U.S. \u2013 to lift any restrictions in the other direction. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Restrictions on international travel and the closure of the Canada-U.S. border have been in place since March.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Canada Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has said reopening of borders to international travel as the coronavirus crisis abates will happen carefully and cautiously.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cHealth and safety is our top priority,\u201d Trudeau said at his press briefing on June 22.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>\u201cNow obviously there are places where the crisis is not as serious, but places where it\u2019s still raging, so we\u2019ll have to look carefully at what we can do and when we can open our borders.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Anyone entering Canada is still required to quarantine for 14 days on arrival and provide CBSA officers with a viable quarantine plan.
