Federal government immigration<\/a> agents can once again be reached by phone after Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) reopened call operations.<\/span><\/p>\n

Previously, the call centre had only been reachable by email after call operations were suspended because of the coronavirus pandemic.<\/span><\/p>\n

The ongoing impact of COVID-19 means the service will operate at reduce capacity, with calls taken Monday to Friday between 9am and 5pm EST.<\/span><\/p>\n

IRCC warned technical problems could occur \u2018given new systems that have been put in place to support agents working remotely\u2019.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThank you for your patience as we continue to work to address operational challenges resulting from this global pandemic,\u201d a statement said.<\/span><\/p>\n

Enquiries can be submitted online 24 hours a day, seven days a week.<\/span><\/p>\n

Instead of closing itself off entirely during the pandemic currently engulfing the world, Canada has continued to look for a position where immigrants can help the country make a swift economic recovery in post-coronavirus times<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Canada\u2019s coronavirus lockdown in mid-March saw it limit travel to all but citizens, permanent residents and their immediate family members.<\/span><\/p>\n

It quickly introduced exemptions as of March 26, for permanent residents approved before March 18, for all\u00a0work permit holders<\/a>, particularly those in\u00a0agriculture and food-related occupations<\/a>, and for\u00a0study permit holders<\/a>\u00a0approved before March 18.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Since the lockdown struck, the federal government has conducted six\u00a0Express Entry draws<\/a>, issuing Invitations to Apply to 11,720\u00a0Provincial Nominee Program<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Canadian Experience Class<\/a>\u00a0candidates, most likely to already be here as temporary residents.<\/span><\/p>\n

Draws have also continued at provincial level, with Ontario<\/a>,\u00a0British Columbia<\/a>,\u00a0Alberta<\/a>,\u00a0Saskatchewan<\/a>,\u00a0Manitoba<\/a>\u00a0and Nova Scotia<\/a> all issuing invitations since March 15.<\/span><\/p>\n

Many of these draws have been tailored to the challenging economic conditions caused by COVID-19 restrictions.
