crucial group of <a href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/coronavirus-priority-canada-work-permits-for-these-agriculture-occupations\">temporary foreign workers<\/a> to help Canada\u2019s beekeepers during the coronavirus crisis.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The flight was expected to leave the Central American country on Monday, delivering 80 workers to more than 30 employers across Canada.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Stranded Canadians wishing to return home in the face of the coronavirus pandemic have also been offered seats on the flight, in a link up between the Council and Global Immigration Pilot<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><span>Each passenger will be subject to a health check before the flight and be required to self-isolated for 14 days upon arrival, under rules imposed by the federal government when allowing an exemption for TFWs.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Employers are expected to repay the Council a portion of the $200,000 it spent on chartering the flight, necessary because of the suspension of air travel due to the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Beekeepers are just one of several agriculture and food-related industries in Canada desperate for workers, as spring begins and planting, growing and processing season kicks into action.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Canada is prioritizing\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/labour-market-impact-assessments-lmia-in-canada\/\">Labour Market Impact Assessments<\/a>\u00a0(LMIAs) in important occupations to help farms and other businesses.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The federal government is aiming to sure up Canada\u2019s food security by helping farmers being in the labour they need to plant and harvest crops.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC), which handles LMIA requests through the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/canada-work-visa\">Temporary Foreign Worker Program<\/a>, says priority is being given to \u2018occupations in agriculture and agri-food\u2019.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>The priority occupations are:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span><\/span><span>6331 \u2013 Butchers, meat cutters and fishmongers \u2013 retail and wholesale<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span><\/span><span>7511 \u2013 Transport Truck drivers<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span><\/span><span>8252 \u2013 Agricultural service contractors, farm supervisors and specialized livestock workers<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span><\/span><span>8431 \u2013 General farmworkers<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span><\/span><span>8432 \u2013 Nursery and greenhouse workers<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span><\/span><span>8611 \u2013 Harvesting labourers<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span><\/span><span>9462 \u2013 Industrial butchers and meat cutters, poultry preparers and related workers<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span><\/span><span>9463 \u2013 Fish and seafood plant workers<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span><\/span><span>9617 \u2013 Labourers in food, beverage and associated products processing<\/span><\/li>\n<li><span><\/span><span>9618 \u2013 Labourers in fish and seafood processing<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span>Other measures put in place by ESDC include the waiving of minimum recruitment requirements until at least October 31, 2020.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>It has also extended the validity of LMIAs from six to nine months and doubled the duration of employment from one to two years for workers in the low-wage stream as part
