2020-03-25 – Ontario nominated nearly 7,400 principal immigration applicants in 2019, representing nearly 13,750 newcomers to the province including spouses and dependents, new figures show.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program\u2019s<\/a> review of 2019 declared \u2018demand for the OINP is strong\u2019, with the province reaching its 2019 allocation of 6,650 in December, then filling the addition 700 slots grated by the federal government.<\/span><\/p>\n

Ontario officials have called for the allocation to be increased to more than 13,000 by 2022, showing how confident the province is in filling spaces.<\/span><\/p>\n

The next two most popular streams were the Employer Job Offer: International Student (1,347 nominations) and Employer Job Offer: Foreign Worker (1,195).\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The top three streams made up more than 70 per cent of Ontario\u2019s nomination total.<\/span><\/p>\n

Most Popular 2019 Ontario Immigration Tech Occupations<\/h3>\n

Ontario launch Tech Draws through the Human Capital Priorities stream in 2019, with a resultant slew of nominations going to candidates with IT experience.<\/span><\/p>\n

The province reports a third of all nominations went to candidates work experience or a job offer in a technology occupation.<\/span><\/p>\n

Software engineers and designers saw the most nominations, with 935, while computer programmers and interactive media developers received 598 nominations.<\/span><\/p>\n

These number are expected to grow again in 2020, with Tech Draws an established part of the OINP landscape.<\/span><\/p>\n

Francophone Immigration<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

Francophone candidates made up 6.1 per cent of Ontario\u2019s total nominations in 2019, beating the province\u2019s 5 per cent target.<\/span><\/p>\n

With Quebec reducing numbers of skilled immigrants, francophones can currently find better opportunities for immigration outside the French-speaking province.<\/span><\/p>\n

The OINP welcomed most francophones through the French-Speaking Skilled Worker Stream<\/a> and the Human Capital Priorities Stream.<\/span><\/p>\n

Entrepreneur Immigration<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

While a grand total of zero Entrepreneur Stream<\/a> nominations were issued by Ontario in 2019, the province reported that 7 candidates are in the final stages of the process, meaning they are already in Ontario on a work permit.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThese 7 Entrepreneur Stream candidates are anticipated to invest over $30 million and hire 136 Ontarians as a result of establishing their businesses in Ontario,\u201d the province said.<\/span><\/p>\n

Source Countries For 2019 Ontario Immigration<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n

Correlating with national figures, the majority of Ontario nominations went to Indian citizens in 2019. The 3,587 Indians receiving nominations represented nearly half of the total.<\/span><\/p>\n

Overall, Ontario nominated candidates from more than 130 different countries during the year.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

2019 Ontario Immigration: Candidate Profiles<\/h3>\n

Ontario reports more than a third of candidates receiving nominations in 2019 had a job offer in hand. Nearly 1,900 employers offer jobs to Ontario immigration candidates in 2019.<\/span><\/p>\n

Furthermore, more than 96 per cent of nominee held a post-secondary degree, while more than half boasted language skilled of CLB 7 or above in one of the official languages.<\/span><\/p>\n

\n

2019 Ontario Immigration: Demand<\/h3>\n

Ontario says that demand by far exceeded supply of nominations in 2019, strengthening its call for an increased allocation.<\/span><\/p>\n

Many of Ontario\u2019s most popular streams had to be paused throughout the year as a result of this demand.<\/span><\/p>\n

At the extreme end, the Ontario Masters Graduate Stream was only open for two days in 2019.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Employer Job Offer: International Student Stream and Employer Job Offer: Foreign Worker Stream were open for 116 days and 143 days respectively, while the remaining streams remained open the whole year.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cHigher levels of interest in Ontario as a destination for prospective permanent residents was also reflected in the program\u2019s Express Entry streams, leading the program to increase the\u00a0CRS\u00a0scores used to issue Notifications of Interests,\u201d the province said.<\/span><\/p>\n
