A new pilot program to allow certain candidates to sponsor undeclared immediate family members for Canada immigration opened on September 9, 2019.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The two-year <a href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/family-sponsorship-immigration-overview\"><span class=\"s2\">family sponsorship immigration<\/span><\/a> pilot is aimed at refugees and those who were themselves sponsored as a spouse, partner or dependent child.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">It stems from a requirement for immigration candidates to declare all their family members on their application when applying to Canada \u2013 including those who are not accompanying them.<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>Read More<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s3\"><a href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/canada-takes-action-to-help-vulnerable-immigration-and-temporary-residence-candidates\">Canada Takes Action To Help Vulnerable Immigration and Temporary Residence Candidates<\/a><\/span><span class=\"s4\"><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/canada-starts-giving-temporary-residence-permits-to-family-abuse-victims\"><span class=\"s2\">Canada Starts Giving Temporary Residence Permits To Family Abuse Victims<\/span><\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/open-work-permit-program-for-spouses-and-common-law-partners-extended\"><span class=\"s2\">Open Work Permit Program For Spouses and Common-Law Partners Extended<\/span><\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/two-year-rule-abolished-spousal-sponsorship-canada\"><span class=\"s2\">Two-year Rule Abolished for Spousal Sponsorship in Canada (Audio)<\/span><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Failure to declare a family member results in a lifetime ban on the principal applicant being able to sponsor that family member in the future.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">\u201cFor various reasons, including lack of awareness or lack of knowledge of a family member\u2019s whereabouts in a conflict situation, many newcomers failed to declare some family members on their application,\u201d said an Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada statement.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The new pilot addresses this \u2018unintended consequence\u2019, IRCC said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">For two years from September 9, \u201ca person conferred refugee protection in Canada, or a person who was sponsored as a spouse, partner or dependent child themselves, will be able to sponsor undeclared immediate family members (a spouse, partner or dependent child).\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">IRCC hopes the measure will help <a href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/family-sponsorship-immigration-overview\"><span class=\"s2\">family reunification<\/span><\/a>, and stop the penalizing of dependants who were not declared, through no fault of their own.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The pilot has been limited to refugees and those who were sponsored as a close family member \u201cto uphold program integrity and ensure that this pilot project doesn\u2019t make the system vulnerable to fraud and misrepresentation,\u201d IRCC said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">Applications that are already in process will also benefit from this pilot project.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The pilot was one of three initiatives introduced on May 31 aimed at protecting vulnerable immigration candidates.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The other two were aimed at vulnerable workers and newcomers who face family abuse.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">1) Vulnerable workers<\/span><\/h3>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>As of June 4, 2019<\/b>, migrant workers on an employer-specific\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/canada-work-visa\"><span class=\"s2\">work permit<\/span><\/a>\u00a0facing an abusive job situation in Canada can apply for an open work permit.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The change allows the worker to leave the abusive employer immediately and find another job without fear of losing their status.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">When an application is approved for an open work permit for a vulnerable worker, the employer also faces an inspection.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3 class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">2) Newcomers who face family abuse<\/span><\/h3>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><b>As of July 26, 2019<\/b>, newcomers who are victims of family violence can apply for a fee-exempt\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/canada-temporary-visa-overview\"><span class=\"s2\">temporary resident<\/span><\/a>\u00a0permit to give them legal immigration status in Canada. The status includes a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/canada-work-visa\"><span class=\"s2\">work permit<\/span><\/a>\u00a0and health care coverage.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">IRCC is also expediting the process for those in urgent family violence situations who apply for permanent residence on humanitarian and compassionate grounds.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The expedited temporary resident permit process for victims of family violence is only available to foreign nationals in Canada who have not yet obtained their permanent residence and whose status in Canada is dependent on their abusive spouse or partner.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">It is not available to foreign nationals outside Canada.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sep 09, 2019 &#8211; A new pilot program to allow certain candidates to sponsor undeclared immediate family members for Canada immigration opened on September 9, 2019.
