{"id":34504,"date":"2017-05-11T18:04:55","date_gmt":"2017-05-11T18:04:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/immigrationca.staging.wpengine.com\/parent-grandparent-sponsorship-canada\/"},"modified":"2017-05-11T18:10:25","modified_gmt":"2017-05-11T18:10:25","slug":"parent-grandparent-sponsorship-canada","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/fr\/parent-grandparent-sponsorship-canada\/","title":{"rendered":"Parent and Grandparent Sponsorship in Canada"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>May 11, 2017 &#8211; Canada currently runs a lottery system for citizens and permanent residents who want to apply for parents and grandparents sponsorship for Canadian immigration.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-34502\" title=\"Parent and Grandparent Sponsorship\" src=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/Parent-and-Grandparent-Sponsorship-300x172.jpg\" alt=\"Parent and Grandparent Sponsorship\" width=\"262\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/Parent-and-Grandparent-Sponsorship-300x172.jpg 300w, https:\/\/immigration.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/Parent-and-Grandparent-Sponsorship-280x160.jpg 280w, https:\/\/immigration.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/05\/Parent-and-Grandparent-Sponsorship.jpg 337w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 262px) 100vw, 262px\" \/>Sponsors are invited to complete a basic questionnaire to enter the lottery, from which names are drawn to complete a full application.<\/p>\n<p>The questionnaire is open for completion for a month, usually from early January to early February each calendar year.<\/p>\n<p>The sponsorship system was introduced in 2017, replacing the old first-come, first-served system.<\/p>\n<h3>Sponsor Requirements for Parent and Grandparent Program<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>You must be 18 years of age or older.<\/li>\n<li>Demonstrate, for a period of 3 consecutive years prior to sponsorship, income greater than the minimum published by IRCC.<\/li>\n<li>Sign an undertaking to financially support the parent or grandparent, and reimburse the government for any social assistance paid out to the relative, for a period of 20 years from the date of permanent residence.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Rules For Establishing Whether Sponsor Meets Income Requirements<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Only official documents issued by the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) will be accepted to demonstrate income for the three years prior to submission;<\/li>\n<li>If a co-signer is included in the sponsorship application, the combined income of the co-signer and the sponsor will be considered;<\/li>\n<li>Any amounts from the following sources will be deducted from the sponsor and co-signer\u2019s income for the purposes of financial eligibility:<\/li>\n<li>Provincial allowances received for a program of instruction or training;\n<ul>\n<li>Social assistance received from a province;<\/li>\n<li>Financial assistance received from the Government of Canada under a resettlement program;<\/li>\n<li>Amounts received under the Employment Insurance Act, other than special benefits;<\/li>\n<li>Monthly guaranteed income supplement received under the Old Age Security Act;<\/li>\n<li>Canada child tax benefit received under the Income Tax Act.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><b>Interested employers:\u00a0<\/b>Kindly\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/en\/employment-portal\/canada-employers.html\">contact us<\/a>\u00a0here to receive further information.<\/p>\n<p><b>Interested candidates:<\/b>\u00a0Find out whether you qualify to Canada by completing our\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/en\/free-immigration-evaluation.html\">free on-line evaluation<\/a>.
