April\u00a028, 2017 – Manitoba immigration will begin charging a $500 application fee for its skilled worker stream under the Manitoba Provincial Nominee Program (MPNP). The charge will be effective from May 15, 2017.<\/p>\n

The next draw for the MPNP<\/a> will not take place until after May 15, the province announced on its website.<\/p>\n

While the Manitoba immigration<\/a> online application system is upgraded, it will not be available on May 14, 2017.<\/p>\n

It selects international workers with the right qualifications and experience and nominates them to the federal government for immigration.<\/p>\n

The province boasts a stable economy with a traditional low unemployment rate.<\/p>\n

MPNP: Three Steps to Skilled Worker Immigration<\/h3>\n

  1. Submit Expression of Interest.<\/li>\n
  2. High-scoring candidates are invited to submit an application.<\/li>\n
  3. MPNP nominate candidates to apply to the federal government for permanent residence.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Manitoba announced a new \u2018Labour Market Strategy for Immigration\u2019 in December 2016, aiming to plug the significant gap in its labour market created by an aging population, with a significant chunk of the workforce set to retire between now and 2021.<\/p>\n

    A provincial forecast predicts 177,800 job vacancies over the next five years, with nearly two thirds created by retirements.<\/p>\n

    Key sectors include service, business, finance, trades and transportation, according to the provincial government immigration website,\u00a0www.immigratemanitoba.com<\/a>. Specific shortages are currently being seen in manufacturing, agri-business and healthcare.<\/p>\n

    The government says at least a quarter of the jobs will require skilled immigrants with post-secondary training and job-specific experience.<\/p>\n

    Broad changes under the plan will be seen in five key areas:<\/h3>\n
      \n
    1. Annual nomination plan in line with labour market and business priorities.<\/li>\n
    2. Partnerships with industry and education providers to better prepare and match applicants to jobs.<\/li>\n
    3. Priority for skilled workers with existing employment, or high-potential for early employment.<\/li>\n
    4. Priority for candidates with job-creating business plans.<\/li>\n
    5. Re-invest application fees to improve services and support for immigrants and refugees.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      The province also aims to improve its communication to new immigrants by clearly outlining both labour market requirements and business investment priorities. It plans to update these priorities on a quarterly basis.<\/p>\n
