{"id":33572,"date":"2017-04-24T20:11:49","date_gmt":"2017-04-24T20:11:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/immigrationca.staging.wpengine.com\/lifting-bulgaria-canada-visa-requirement-set-may-1\/"},"modified":"2017-04-24T20:16:10","modified_gmt":"2017-04-24T20:16:10","slug":"lifting-bulgaria-canada-visa-requirement-set-may-1","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/fr\/lifting-bulgaria-canada-visa-requirement-set-may-1\/","title":{"rendered":"Lifting Of Bulgaria Canada Visa Requirement Set For May 1"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>April\u00a024, 2017 &#8211; The same Canada visa requirements applicable for Romanians will also apply to Bulgarians, it has been announced.<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-33576 size-medium\" title=\"Lifting Of Bulgaria Canada Visa Requirement Set For May 1\" src=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/54256493_s-300x196.jpg\" alt=\"Lifting Of Bulgaria Canada Visa Requirement Set For May 1\" width=\"300\" height=\"196\" srcset=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/54256493_s-300x196.jpg 300w, https:\/\/immigration.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/54256493_s-280x183.jpg 280w, https:\/\/immigration.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/04\/54256493_s.jpg 450w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>Bulgarians who held a <a href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/canada-temporary-visa-overview\/\">Canada visa<\/a> in the last 10 years or currently hold a US visa will have visa-free access to Canada from May 1, 2017.<\/p>\n<p>The announcement was made by the Embassy of Canada for Romania, Bulgaria and Moldova.<\/p>\n<p>Visa-free travel for all Bulgarians will start on December 1, 2017.<\/p>\n<p>Bulgarians will require the Canadian Electronic Travel Authorization (<a href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/electronic-travel-authorization-audio\/\">Canada eTA<\/a>) to board a plane to Canada.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Plan For Bulgarian and Romanian Access To Canada<\/h3>\n<table width=\"100%\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td><strong>Until May 1, 2017<\/strong><\/td>\n<td><strong>May 1, 2017 to December 1, 2017<\/strong><\/td>\n<td><strong>Post December 1, 2017 <\/strong><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td>All Bulgarians and Romanians need Canada visa.<\/td>\n<td>Bulgarians and Romanians who held a Canada visa in the last 10 years, or currently hold a US visa, will not require a visa.<\/td>\n<td>All Bulgarians and Romanians citizens will be able to travel visa-free, but will require a Canada eTA<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<hr \/>\n<p>Canada agreed to lift the visa requirement for both Bulgarians and Romanians after the two countries threatened not to sign a crucial trade deal.<\/p>\n<p>The Canada-EU Trade Agreement, or CETA, will soon become law after it was voted through by the <a href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/european-parliament-approves-canada-eu-trade-deal\/\">European Parliament<\/a> in February.<\/p>\n<p>Opposition, particularly from Belgium but also from Romania and Bulgaria, had threatened to derail the deal at the final hurdle.<\/p>\n<p>The deal must now be ratified by Canada\u2019s parliament.<\/p>\n<p>The visa issue with Bulgaria and Romania began when the EU changed its rules back in 2014.<\/p>\n<p>Under the rule change, all countries granted visa-free access to the EU bloc had to provide the same privilege in return.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Read More<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/european-parliament-approves-canada-eu-trade-deal\/\">European Parliament Approves Canada-EU Trade Deal (Audio)<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/romanian-pm-threatens-vote-canada-eu-trade-deal-unless-visa-requirement-lifted\/\">Romanian PM Threatens to Vote Against Canada-EU Trade Deal Unless Visa Requirement Lifted<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/mexicans-can-now-travel-visa-free-canada\/\">Mexicans Can Now Travel Visa-Free To Canada<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p>Countries were given two years to provide the access, or face losing their visa-free access.<\/p>\n<p>Canada was reluctant to grant the access to Bulgaria and Romania, with former Immigration Minister John McCallum saying neither met the requirements.<\/p>\n<p>But when the issue became tied to CETA, Canada was left with no bargaining room.<\/p>\n<p>Canada lifted the <a href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/canadian-government-budget-syrian-refugee-project\/\">visa requirement for Mexicans<\/a> from December 1, 2017, and has since seem a marked increase in asylum claims.<\/p>\n<p>The first two months of 2017 saw 440 Mexicans detained at the Canada border, according to figures obtained by Reuters.
