The U.S. has banned all electronics larger than a mobile phone from in-flight cabins.<\/p>\n
Garneau said he had put in place \u201csome measures to increase security for flights coming from certain countries.\u201d<\/p>\n
Read More<\/strong><\/p>\n He added: \u201cThose measures have now been put in place to ensure greater security for our air passengers.\u201d<\/p>\n Unlike the U.S., he was unwilling to broadcast exactly what those measures were.<\/p>\n \u201cFor security reasons, we don’t talk about these things,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n The U.S. move to ban laptops came in response to specific intelligence highlighted a potential threat from bombs planted in the devices.<\/p>\n Other countries, including the U.K., put in place similar bans, although the affected routes differed in each case.<\/p>\n Canada considered the same ban, but ultimately decided against it.<\/p>\n U.S. President Donald Trump has been trying to put in place an immigration ban on certain Middle East countries ever since his January inauguration.<\/p>\n The second version of the ban \u2013 focusing on Sudan, Syria, Iran, Libya, Somalia and Yemen \u2013 is currently the subject of an indefinite injunction from the U.S. courts.<\/p>\n It means that while the matter is contested in the courts, the US president will not be able to enforce any kind of ban on\u00a0USA immigration<\/a>\u00a0or the US refugee program.<\/p>\n The executive order bans immigration for 90 days from the six countries. It also suspends the US refugee program for 120 days.<\/p>\n The US Justice Department is understood to be taking the\u00a0Trump immigration ban<\/a>\u00a0case to the US 9th<\/sup>\u00a0Circuit Court of Appeals, although there is no timeline on when that will happen.<\/p>\n In his original ruling, Judge Watson described the Trump administration\u2019s arguments as illogical, and said there was \u201csignificant and unrebutted evidence of religious animus\u201d contained in the executive order.<\/p>\n Trump fired back, saying the ruling was \u201cunprecedented judicial overreach\u201d during a rally in Nashville.<\/p>\n \u201cWe\u2019re going to win. We\u2019re going to keep our citizens safe,\u201d the president said. \u201cThe danger is clear. The law is clear.
