February 16, 2017 –\u00a0Ontario is preparing to receive applications for the most popular streams of its Immigrant Nominee Program<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The OINP\u2019s International Masters Graduate Stream, International PhD Graduate Stream and Express Entry Human Capital Priority Stream will all open week commencing Monday February 20, 2017.<\/p>\n

Both the Masters and PhD streams have been closed since May 9, 2016, while the Human Capital Priority Stream has been closed since February 16, 2016.<\/p>\n

\"OntarioApplications spots are again expected to fill up quickly, despite the OINP having an increased allocation of 6,000 places for 2017.<\/p>\n

This is up 500 places on the 2016 total and more than double the 2,500 cap from 2014.<\/p>\n

Laura Albanese, the provincial Minister of Citizenship and Immigration, said: \u00ab\u00a0Immigration is key to stimulating innovation, growing our workforce and keeping us competitive in today\u2019s global economy.<\/p>\n

\u201cBy helping attract the people who have the skills and abilities we need to fill labour market gaps, Ontario is helping ensure businesses are better able to prosper and make our province even stronger.\u201d<\/p>\n

Other streams that remain open under the OINP include Express Entry French-Speaking Skilled Worker, Investor Immigration (Corporate)<\/a> and Investor Immigration (Entrepreneur).<\/a><\/p>\n

The Employer Pre-Screen stream is the only one to remain closed.<\/p>\n

A quarter of the immigrants nominated by Ontario in 2016 work in the ICT sector, following a 2015 expert panel on how to adapt the workforce to the needs of a knowledge-based economy.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe OINP allows Ontario to attract individuals who have the right skills and experience for our economic needs,\u201d said Deb Matthews, Deputy Premier and Minister of Advanced Education and Skills Development.<\/p>\n

\u201cAttracting and retaining skilled newcomers and international students will help to create a prosperous economy based on ideas, innovation and exchange and will enrich the cultural diversity of Ontario.\u201d<\/p>\n
