{"id":14424,"date":"2016-10-13T16:07:39","date_gmt":"2016-10-13T16:07:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/immigrationca.staging.wpengine.com\/fr\/ontario-helping-internationally-trained-immigrants-find-suitable-jobs\/"},"modified":"2016-12-15T20:57:52","modified_gmt":"2016-12-15T20:57:52","slug":"ontario-helping-internationally-trained-immigrants-find-suitable-jobs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/fr\/ontario-helping-internationally-trained-immigrants-find-suitable-jobs\/","title":{"rendered":"How Ontario Is Helping Internationally-Trained Immigrants Find Suitable Jobs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Immigrants with international training and qualifications are to get more help finding jobs that match their skills and experience.<\/p>\n<p>Ontario has announced a $3.35 million investment in its provincial Bridge Training Program, designed to assist newcomers in navigating the employment market.<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"img6120\" class=\"alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/images\/ontario_jobs.jpg\" width=\"289\" height=\"192\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Often immigrants report having to do lower-paid `fill-in` jobs \u2013 for months and sometimes years \u2013 when they first arrive in Canada.<\/p>\n<p>The Ontario Bridge Training Program (OBTP) is trying to change this, by bringing together immigrants and employers and highlighting transferable skills and qualifications.<\/p>\n<p>Under the <a href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/express-entry-immigration-2016\/\">Express Entry<\/a> system, candidates can subject their foreign-obtained qualifications to an Educational Credential Assessment (ECA), which gives an indication of the level attained in Canadian terms.<\/p>\n<p>The ECA tends to work in support of an immigration application, but does not mean individual employers will recognize qualifications in the same way. OBTP attempts to navigate this divide.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Aims of the Ontario Bridge Training Program<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Improve access to job finding services by, for example, career mentoring, employment events, language skills-training and a micro-loan program.<\/li>\n<li>Help employers recruit, hire and retain internationally trained immigrants, with networking events, an online recruiting service and employer workshops.<\/li>\n<li>Identify newcomers\u2019 transferrable skills and alternate career pathways through, for example, mentoring events and the promotion of entrepreneurship.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p>Ontario provincial government statistic show 6,000 immigrants a year are helped under OBTP, which recognizes the benefit to the economy of getting newcomers into the workforce as soon as possible.<\/p>\n<p>Professions including nursing, medical technology and the skilled trades are among those subject to OBTP projects.<\/p>\n<p>A key area of the program is giving training and support to immigrants with experience in more regulated professions that can be difficult to access.<\/p>\n<p>The program also helps employers with the hiring an integration of newcomers, working to breakdown barriers that can exist between businesses and immigrants.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Interested employers:\u00a0<\/strong>Kindly\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/canada-employers\/\">contact us<\/a>\u00a0here to receive further information.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Interested candidates:<\/strong>\u00a0Find out whether you qualify to Canada by completing our\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/free-immigration-evaluation-forms\/\">free on-line evaluation<\/a>.
