{"id":13428,"date":"2016-10-14T05:28:09","date_gmt":"2016-10-14T05:28:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/immigrationca.staging.wpengine.com\/fr\/president-trump-see-brain-gain-canada\/"},"modified":"2016-12-15T21:18:57","modified_gmt":"2016-12-15T21:18:57","slug":"president-trump-see-brain-gain-canada","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/fr\/president-trump-see-brain-gain-canada\/","title":{"rendered":"Why \u2018President Trump\u2019 Could See \u2018Brain Gain\u2019 for Canada"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A top financial strategist says the election of Donald Trump as US president could be a huge benefit to Canada in terms of immigration.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"img3173\" class=\"alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/images\/Trump3.jpg\" width=\"270\" height=\"180\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Matthew Barasch, Equity Strategist at RBC, believes Canada could witness a \u2018brain gain\u2019 from the US as a flipside to the \u2018brain drain\u2019 it traditionally battles against.<\/p>\n<p>Instead of losing its brightest minds to the lure of major US companies, instead the best and brightest will be minded to move the other way \u2013 and international talent will also start to favour Canada over its southern neighbour.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><strong>Read our guide on how to move to Canada <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/trump-president-step-step-guide-move-canada\/\"><strong>here<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>With Trump also claiming he will clamp down on all types of immigration, including deporting illegals and building a wall along the Mexican border, Canada could also see a boost in the market for lower skilled workers, Barasch says.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUnder Mr. Trump\u2019s plan, the immigration divide between Canada and the US figures to widen even further,\u201d he wrote.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNot only would Canada stand to benefit from increased access to lower cost unskilled workers, but also from increased access to skilled immigrant labour as the US market is potentially viewed as less hospitable to immigrants overall.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>Technology Talent<\/h3>\n<p>Canadian Federal Immigration Minister John McCallum says one of his top priorities is to streamline the process for bringing in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/solving-canadas-technology-talent-shortage-new-immigration-policies\/\">technology talent<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>That was one of the messages he heard loud and clear during several meetings with businesses and provincial officials over the summer.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/parliamentary-committee-recommends-21-changes-temporary-foreign-worker-program-difference-will-make\/\">Under proposed changes<\/a>, expect increased LMIA exemptions. One suggestion being considered is to only apply the LMIA to certain professions, although it remains to be seen how Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada would pursue this route.<\/p>\n<p>Another suggestion is to pull certain technology jobs that are known to be difficult to fill, out of the FSWP altogether and create a sub visa stream aimed only at the most sought after IT talent in the global market.<\/p>\n<p>A new technology talent immigration stream would need to be clear on exactly the aims, goals and criteria to qualify.\u00a0 It is important to form clear requirements and guidelines so the program is not open to abuse.
