Toronto has become a go-to destination for experienced Americans looking to further their careers and gather international experience.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The Ontario giant came in third behind London and Sydney in a LinkedIn report on where educated and experienced Americans choose to live and work. The research looked at where 25,000 Americans have chosen to based themselves since 2010.<\/p>\n

The city\u2019s popularity is broadly put down to its \u2018livability\u2019, which more specifically means safety, schooling, health care, job prospects, culture and diversity.<\/p>\n

    While Toronto may not rank highly among ambitious American university students considering a first career move, it has climbed the ladder when it comes to experienced professionals who are deeper into their careers.<\/p>\n

    Recruiters put it down to two factors.<\/p>\n

    First, employers are looking more and more for international experience when it comes to recruiting staff.<\/p>\n

    Second, Toronto has featured highly on in a number of \u2018best places to live\u2019 surveys conducted by high-profile publications.<\/p>\n

    It means that American employees are actively looking to live and work abroad, and when they do research, Toronto pops up as a recommended destination.<\/p>\n

    Toronto featured alongside Vancouver and Calgary in the top five most \u2018livable\u2019 cities<\/a>, according to a recent ranking produced by the Economist magazine.<\/p>\n

    Vancouver came in third, Toronto fourth and Calgary joint fifth in the table, which scored countries based on infrastructure, culture, environment, health care, education and stability.<\/p>\n

    Toronto came in just 0.1 of a point below Vancouver, with an overall score of 97.2. It also scored a perfect 100 for health care, education and stability, according to the Economist.<\/p>\n

    Toronto scored a 97.2 for its culture and environment, while it came out lowest on infrastructure, with a score of 89.3.<\/p>\n

    Another recent study, this time conducted by the BBC, declared Toronto the most diverse city in the world, with half\u00a0its population born outside Canada among 230 different nationalities.<\/p>\n

    There could also be political motivation for Americans to make the move north.<\/p>\n

    The US saw a spike in Google searches<\/a> for \u2018how to move to Canada\u2019 on the day Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump won a swathe of Super Tuesday states in the race for the nomination.<\/p>\n

    As the prospect of Trump challenging for the White House became a reality, many Americans began looking for a way out.<\/p>\n

    Canadian immigration lawyer Colin Singer, Managing Partner of immigration.ca, was quoted in a\u00a0CNN Money article<\/a>\u00a0about what it takes for an American to move to Canada. \u00a0Watch him being interviewed on the subject\u00a0here<\/a>.<\/p>\n
