{"id":13152,"date":"2016-08-26T00:23:45","date_gmt":"2016-08-26T00:23:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/immigrationca.staging.wpengine.com\/fr\/montreal-businesses-call\/"},"modified":"2018-02-10T10:30:21","modified_gmt":"2018-02-10T10:30:21","slug":"montreal-businesses-call","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/fr\/montreal-businesses-call\/","title":{"rendered":"Montreal Businesses Call For 10,000 More Immigrants by 2020"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-medium wp-image-7909\" src=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/business-Canada-1-300x211.jpg\" alt=\"Business leaders in Montreal are calling for Quebec immigration numbers to reach 60,000 by 2020, instead of the slower increase favoured by the provincial government.\" width=\"300\" height=\"211\" srcset=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/business-Canada-1-300x211.jpg 300w, https:\/\/immigration.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/business-Canada-1-768x539.jpg 768w, https:\/\/immigration.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/business-Canada-1-266x187.jpg 266w, https:\/\/immigration.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/business-Canada-1.jpg 1000w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/>Business leaders in Montreal are calling for\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/quebec-immigration-overview\/\">Quebec immigration<\/a>\u00a0numbers to reach 60,000 by 2020, instead of the slower increase favoured by the provincial government.<\/p>\n<p>The Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal wants to see the numbers rise by 10,000 from the current 50,000, while Immigration Minister Kathleen Weil is planning a more gradual rise, which would see 52,500 immigrants brought in by 2019.<\/p>\n<p>It is the debate going on across Canada at the moment, with employers pushing for greater immigration numbers and streamlined programs for bringing in talent.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Quebec Immigration<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/quebec-skilled-worker-immigration\/\">Quebec Skilled Worker<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/quebecbusinessimmigrationmenu\/\">Quebec Business Immigration<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/fr\/programme-de-lexperience-quebecoise-peq\/\">Quebec Experience Program<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p>Board of Trade President Michel Blanc says the availability of talent is one of the key concerns of Quebec businesses going forward.<\/p>\n<p>He agrees with the provincial government\u2019s immigration reforms, designed to streamline the process and bring in the right immigrants to match labour shortages in Quebec.<\/p>\n<p>The number of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/quebec-receive-5000-new-skilled-worker-applications\/\">economic migrants<\/a>\u00a0to Quebec has been reduced in 2016 to make room for more refugees. Leblanc argues the refugees should have been added to the overall number.<\/p>\n<p>He says technology talent, in demand across the rest of Canada and the world, is also a key requirement in Quebec.<\/p>\n<p>Figures show Quebec welcomes 16 per cent of total immigration to Canada, but has 23 per cent of the total population.<\/p>\n<p>Leblanc argues that if Quebec\u2019s population\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/quebec-looks-answers-falling-birthrate-aging-population-audio\/\">continues to stagnate<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 receiving proportionally fewer immigrants than Ontario and British Columbia \u2013 it will have an impact on the provinces political standing inside Canada.<\/p>\n<p>Quebec already creates controversy in Ontario and B.C. because of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/quebec-immigrant-investor-program\/\">Quebec Immigrant Investor Program<\/a>\u00a0(QIIP).<\/p>\n<p>It is Canada\u2019s only viable passive investor program, and as such is\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/quebec-immigrant-investor-program-qiip-among-worlds-popular-audio\/\">extremely popular<\/a>. The problem is the wealthy, mainly Chinese immigrants who pay $800,000 in return for permanent resident, end up settling in Toronto or Vancouver, helping to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/vancouver-charge-foreign-buyers-property-surtax\/\">drive the housing booms<\/a>\u00a0the two major cities are experiencing.<\/p>\n<p>Opponents to increased immigration in Quebec point to a greater unemployment rate for newcomers, saying that fewer, better-targeted immigrants are the best policy.<\/p>\n<p>The issues are being debated at the National Assembly this week.
