These recruiters are willing to make full-time job offers to immigrants, showing what Taylor calls a \u201cgreat appetite\u201d for economic immigration in Thunder Bay.<\/p>\n<p>This makes the impending expiration of the program all the more disappointing \u2013 a feeling that was expressed by CEDC in a statement reflecting employers\u2019 and candidates\u2019 attitude towards the candidate portal\u2019s closure.<\/p>\n<h3>Thunder Bay Has Benefitted Enormously from the Program<\/h3>\n<p>As other communities have not been using their quotas fully, writes Rinne, Thunder Bay has benefited from an increased quota for itself the past two years.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am absolutely in awe of the immigrants that have come to Thunder Bay in hopes of a better life,\u201d wrote Suzanne Tighe of Nurse Next Door.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey offer a new perspective, intense dedication, and work especially hard to prove themselves. Employers who do not try to attract foreign workers are missing out on a huge pool of talent.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>RNIP, in fact, helps fill upwards of 300 jobs for Thunder Bay, according to a research paper from the Northern Policy Institute.<\/p>\n<p>Bryanne de Castro Rocha (the paper\u2019s author) found that in a year, RNIP in Thunder Bay generated $11.6 million in wages in the local economy and offered 229 jobs to its applicants; this, in turn, generated an additional 92 jobs in the local economy for 321 jobs after one year.<\/p>\n<p>The paper wrote that immigrants benefit the local economy, as they pay taxes that fund public services, spend their money on \u201cgoods, housing and transportation,\u201d stimulating the economy, and provide employers qualified workers.<\/p>\n<p>Therefore, the loss of this program would have multisectoral repercussions \u2013 within Thunder Bay and beyond.<\/p>\n<p>The geographic boundary of the RNIP Thunder Bay and Area encompasses Thunder Bay and Rainy River Districts, including the following communities:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>City of Thunder Bay<\/li>\n<li>Town of Atikokan<\/li>\n<li>Town of Fort Frances<\/li>\n<li>Town of Rainy River<\/li>\n<li>City of Dryden<\/li>\n<li>Town of Emo<\/li>\n<li>Municipality (town) of Greenstone<\/li>\n<li>Town of Marathon<\/li>\n<li>Township of Dorion<\/li>\n<li>Township of Manitouwadge<\/li>\n<li>Township of Nipigon<\/li>\n<li>Township of Schreiber<\/li>\n<li>Township of Terrace Bay<\/li>\n<li>Township of Red Rock<\/li>\n<li>Municipality of Sioux Lookout<\/li>\n<li>Township of Ignace<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The federal government\u2019s Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot (RNIP) has witnessed a sharp uptick in application numbers ahead of its expiry in February 2024.
