Massive layoffs in the American tech sector are leading many highly-skilled foreign nationals with H-1B visas in the United States to look north to Canada for work, reports CNBC.<\/p>\n
The American business news channel has reported that 6,000 H-1B visa holders moved to Canada this year alone.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe highly educated foreign national is really at the mercy of the U.S. employers,\u201d Annie Beaudoin, a former Canadian immigration officer, reportedly told CNBC.<\/p>\n
Under sweeping changes made by then-U.S. President Donald Trump, the H-1B visa program made it more expensive and difficult to get highly-skilled immigrant workers into the United States.<\/p>\n
That was a massive blow to American tech companies but a boon to Canada\u2019s high-tech sector.<\/p>\n

Microsoft laid off 10,000 employees.
