Private refugee<\/a> sponsor groups can now apply online through the Permanent Residence Portal, 14 months after it started accepting online applications for\u00a0sponsorship<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0adoption<\/a>\u00a0programs, non-Express Entry<\/a>\u00a0Provincial Nominee Programs<\/a>\u00a0(PNP),\u00a0Quebec Skilled Worker<\/a>\u00a0programs and the\u00a0Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot<\/a>\u00a0(RNIP).<\/p>\n

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) is pledging to open up Permanent Residence Portal to some government-assisted refugee referral partners as well by the end of this year.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis expansion gives sponsors a more convenient, secure and efficient way to submit their applications and referrals,\u201d notes the IRCC website.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cThey will receive immediate confirmation that they have successfully submitted an application and can avoid delays and issues with submitting applications by e-mail.\u201d<\/p>\n

Canadian immigration officials are working with the Refugee Sponsorship Training Program (RSTP) and other partners to help sponsor groups successfully while making the transition to the portal. RSTP has been holding information sessions and will be providing training and additional support.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The federal immigration department is claiming online application submissions will improve its processes by preventing incomplete applications from being submitted and saving time.<\/p>\n

\u201cImmigration is about people. It\u2019s about starting a new job, reuniting a family and creating a new life in this beautiful country we call home,\u201d said former Immigration Minister Sean Fraser when the online portal was launched.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cAs we look to strengthen our immigration system by updating our technology, people – our clients – must be at the centre of all that we do.<\/p>\n

\u201cBy adding resources where they are needed, and leveraging technology to make processing faster and applying easier for our clients, we can give newcomers and new citizens the welcoming experience they deserve.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ottawa\u2019s\u00a0permanent\u00a0residence\u00a0portal\u00a0has been available to some applicants as early as the end of March 2021.<\/p>\n
