{"id":128384,"date":"2023-10-13T12:58:06","date_gmt":"2023-10-13T16:58:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/canada-fast-tracking-work-permit-extension-and-pgwp-applications-using-automation-tools\/"},"modified":"2023-10-13T12:58:06","modified_gmt":"2023-10-13T16:58:06","slug":"canada-fast-tracking-work-permit-extension-and-pgwp-applications-using-automation-tools","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/fr\/canada-fast-tracking-work-permit-extension-and-pgwp-applications-using-automation-tools\/","title":{"rendered":"Canada Fast-Tracking Work Permit Extension and PGWP Applications Using Automation Tools"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\">Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) announced the expansion of its use of proven automation technologies to process <a href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/fr\/visa-de-travail-canadien-travailler-au-canada\/\"><span class=\"s1\">work permit<\/span><\/a> extensions and <a href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/fr\/post-graduation-work-permit\/\"><span class=\"s1\">post-graduation work permits<\/span><\/a> (PGWPs) in a more efficient and streamlined manner.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The tools are set to process applications under both categories according to their complexity and enable quicker decisions for some applicants.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cAutomated tools are part of IRCC\u2019s commitment to using technology responsibly to build a stronger immigration system for the benefit of all of our clients,\u201d reads the Government of Canada website.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cOur tools are reviewed routinely to make sure they work as intended and that the results are consistent with applications that receive a full human review. Only an IRCC officer can refuse an application; the automated tools do not refuse or recommend refusing applications.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"p1\"><b>The Triage <\/b>Function<\/h3>\n<p class=\"p1\">The tools\u2019 triage function becomes responsible for most clerical and repetitive tasks that pertain to sorting applications using rules that are developed by IRCC officials and based on the legislative and regulatory criteria for the program. Files are directed to the correct officers for further processing based on office capabilities and officer expertise.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p class=\"p1\"><b>Read More:<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s2\"><a href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/fr\/british-columbia-pnp-draw-province-issues-at-least-187-canada-immigration-invitations\/\">British Columbia PNP Draw: Province Issues At Least 187 Canada Immigration Invitations<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s2\"><a href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/fr\/pilots-association-casts-doubt-over-effectiveness-of-express-entry-fixing-canadas-shortage\/\">Pilots Association Casts Doubt Over Effectiveness of Express Entry Fixing Canada\u2019s Shortage\u00a0\u00a0<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p2\"><span class=\"s2\"><a href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/fr\/investigation-into-abuses-of-temporary-foreign-workers-sees-93-employers-fined-total-of-1-54m\/\">Investigation Into Abuses Of Temporary Foreign Workers Sees 93 Employers Fined Total Of $1.54m<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p class=\"p1\">This function allows immigration officers to focus on assessing applications and making their final decisions on the same.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"p1\">The Eligibility Function<\/h3>\n<p class=\"p1\">Routine applications are assessed for streamlined processing using this tool, which accelerates IRCC\u2019s work.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The eligibility function gauges whether an application is a routine case during the review stage, and can determine whether an applicant is eligible for a work permit extension or PGWP using criteria set by IRCC officials.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Subsequently, the file is sent to an officer to determine if the applicant remains admissible to the country and to make the final decision on the application.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Applications without automatic eligibility approval may still be manually approved after an officer reviews their case.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">In what it claims to be its commitment to \u201cresponsibly developing and deploying data-driven technologies in line with privacy requirements and human rights protection\u201d \u2013 along with its furtherance of Canada\u2019s Treasury Board Directive on Automated Decision-Making \u2013 an algorithmic impact assessment (AIA) has been developed to assess the tools used for work permit extensions and PGWP issuances.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The AIA categorized systems\u2019 impact levels as moderate, and many measures are emplaced to mitigate possible risks.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">These include a review for potential discriminatory impacts, privacy and security elements built into the design of the tools, and the officers\u2019 ability to overturn the tools\u2019 decision.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p class=\"p1\"><b>Watch video: <\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><iframe title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/iavh_quaLFI?si=c_l5rOr8U_LwO0jj\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3 class=\"p1\">Extending a Canada work permit<\/h3>\n<p class=\"p1\">Work permit holders whose permit is about to expire or in need of change need to apply to extend it or change the conditions on it.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">This needs to be done at least 30 days before the current permit expires, and legally allows you, as a work-permit holder, to stay in Canada while your application is being processed.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">To maintain status, it is important to note that the application needs to be received by IRCC before the current permit expires. The Department determines the date and time an application is received via two ways:<\/p>\n<ol class=\"ol1\">\n<li class=\"li1\"><b>If you apply online:<\/b>\u00a0You must submit your application before midnight UTC on the day your work permit expires.<\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\"><b>If you apply on paper:<\/b>\u00a0IRCC stamps paper applications the day they receive them at the case processing centre.\n<ul class=\"ul1\">\n<li class=\"li1\">If IRCC receives an application after your work permit expires, they will count back seven days and use that as the day the permit was received.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) announced the expansion of its use of proven automation technologies to process work permit extensions and post-graduation work permits (PGWPs) in a more efficient and streamlined manner.
