{"id":127647,"date":"2023-09-29T12:13:17","date_gmt":"2023-09-29T16:13:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/nova-scotia-expands-immigration-stream-to-include-paramedics-pharmacy-technicians\/"},"modified":"2023-09-29T12:13:17","modified_gmt":"2023-09-29T16:13:17","slug":"nova-scotia-expands-immigration-stream-to-include-paramedics-pharmacy-technicians","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/fr\/nova-scotia-expands-immigration-stream-to-include-paramedics-pharmacy-technicians\/","title":{"rendered":"Nova Scotia Expands Immigration Stream To Include Paramedics, Pharmacy Technicians"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\">Paramedics and pharmacy technicians can now immigrate to Nova Scotia under the International Graduates in Demand (IGD) stream of that Atlantic Canadian province\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/fr\/nova-scotia-immigration\/\"><span class=\"s1\">Provincial Nominee Program<\/span><\/a> (PNP).<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The expansion of that PNP program stream was announced on Sept. 22 to deal with labour shortages in the province.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cInternational students enrich our communities and workplaces and we want to help them stay in Nova Scotia after they graduate and build a life and career here,\u201d said provincial Immigration Minister Jill Balser.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cThe expansion of the International Graduates in Demand pathway will help us fill critical labour needs and it offers graduates the opportunity to work in rewarding careers as pharmacy technicians and paramedics.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The expansion of the IGD comes in the wake of a move earlier this year by Nova Scotia to give a tuition rebate of $11,500 to paramedics who agree to work in the province for at least three years.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p class=\"p2\"><b>Read More<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"p3\"><span class=\"s2\"><a href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/immigrants-to-quebec-more-likely-to-be-university-graduates-analysis-finds\/\">Immigrants To Quebec More Likely To Be University Graduates, Analysis Finds<\/a><\/span><span class=\"s3\"><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/parents-and-grandparents-program-arrivals-fell-in-july\/\"><span class=\"s1\">Parents And Grandparents Program Arrivals Fell In July<\/span><\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/fr\/canada-labour-market-softens-but-still-tighter-than-prior-to-the-covid-19-pandemic\/\"><span class=\"s1\">Canada Labour Market Softens But Still Tighter Than Prior To The COVID-19 Pandemic<\/span><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p class=\"p1\">The IGD stream is for recent international graduates whose skills and education match specific <span class=\"s4\">\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/fr\/canadas-new-noc-2021-for-immigration-and-work-permit-applications-takes-effect-today\/\"><span class=\"s1\">National Occupational Classification (NOC) 2021<\/span><\/a> <\/span>job categories.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Here are the occupations currently eligible for this stream in Nova Scotia.<\/p>\n<ul class=\"ul1\">\n<li class=\"li5\"><span class=\"s6\">Paramedical occupations &#8211; 32102<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li5\"><span class=\"s6\">Pharmacy technicians &#8211; 32124<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li5\"><span class=\"s6\">Nurse aides, orderlies, and patient service associates &#8211; 33102<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li5\"><span class=\"s6\">Early childhood educators and assistants &#8211; 42202<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"p1\">International students must meet the following criteria to be eligible to immigrate to Canada under the IGD stream:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"ul1\">\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none;\">\n<ul class=\"ul1\">\n<li class=\"li5\"><span class=\"s6\">have a full-time permanent job offer from a Nova Scotia employer in an eligible job category that corresponds with the recent field of study;<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li5\"><span class=\"s6\">be 21 to 55 years old;<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li5\"><span class=\"s6\">have a high school diploma;<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li5\"><span class=\"s6\">have completed a course of study within three years of the application. The program must have been at least 30 weeks in length and the student must have completed at least 50 per cent of the program in Nova Scotia;<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li5\"><span class=\"s6\">when applying under the NOC 32102 or 32124 occupational codes, the program must have granted a diploma;<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul class=\"ul1\">\n<li class=\"li5\"><span class=\"s6\">when applying under NOC 33102, the program must have granted a certificate, diploma, or degree;<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li5\"><span class=\"s6\">when applying under NOC 42202, the program must have granted a diploma or a degree;<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li5\"><span class=\"s6\">have the requisite certifications issued by Nova Scotia regulatory bodies required for the job;<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li5\"><span class=\"s6\">prove language ability equal to Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) Level 5 even if the applicant\u2019s first language is English or French, and;<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li5\"><span class=\"s6\">show enough financial resources to successfully settle in Nova Scotia.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"p1\">Allison Bodnar, chief executive officer of the Pharmacy Association of Nova Scotia, welcomed the expansion of the IGD stream on Friday.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"p1\">Expansion Of Nova Scotia\u2019s IGD Stream Welcomed By Healthcare Industry Organizations<\/h3>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cWe are excited about this announcement,\u201d said Bodnar. \u201cNova Scotia is experiencing an extreme shortage of pharmacy technicians.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cAnything the government can do to increase the supply of these professionals will help our teams and ensure more access to pharmacy services across the province.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Paula Poirier, president and chief operating officer of ambulance services provider Emergency Medical Care Inc., echoed those sentiments.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cThis is a positive action for the attraction and retention of international candidates, supporting our workforce,\u201d said Poirier.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p class=\"p6\"><b>Watch video:\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"p6\"><iframe title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/idtvro_L3NY?si=YNfe3PbTLPF0LMhr\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p class=\"p1\">Throughout Canada, healthcare professionals are those in highest demand and labour shortages have only grown this year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Statistics Canada reports the healthcare sector was the only broad occupational group to see a rise in job vacancies in the second quarter of this year with 90,000 vacant positions in health occupations, up by 7,800, or 9.5 per cent from a year ago.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cIt was also the only broad occupational group to see a year-over-year increase in full and part-time unfilled positions; as well as in permanent \u2026 and temporary \u2026<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0 <\/span>vacant positions,\u201d notes Statistics Canada.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cAt the national level, the bulk of the year-over-year increase in job vacancies in health occupations in the second quarter was attributable to registered nurses and registered psychiatric nurses \u2026 and licensed practical nurses.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Nova Scotia Health and Wellness MinisterMichelle Thompson says those international grads now eligible under the IGD stream will be vital in helping the province meet its obligation to provide healthcare to its residents.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cParamedics and pharmacy technicians play crucial roles in our healthcare system and we need more of them,\u201d said Thompson.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"p1\">International Graduates Can Apply Online To Immigrate To Nova Scotia<\/h3>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cAccess to this immigration stream helps people who have grown to love our province while completing their training stay here and provide care for Nova Scotians who need it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Under that stream, international students who have graduated from a public or private post-secondary institution in Nova Scotia can <a href=\"https:\/\/novascotiaimmigration.com\/move-here\/international-graduates-in-demand\/\" rel=\"noopener\"><span class=\"s1\">apply online<\/span><\/a> for a <a href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/fr\/visa-de-travail-canadien-travailler-au-canada\/\"><span class=\"s1\">work permit<\/span><\/a> and permanent residency in Canada before gaining work experience.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cNova Scotia is known as an education destination and our post-secondary institutions have an important role to play when it comes to helping us attract and retain the students we need, today and tomorrow,\u201d said Education Minister Brian Wong.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cWe hope this expansion will help more international students choose to study here because we need them and value them.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Paramedics and pharmacy technicians can now immigrate to Nova Scotia under the International Graduates in Demand (IGD) stream of that Atlantic Canadian province\u2019s Provincial Nominee Program (PNP).
