{"id":126751,"date":"2023-09-12T11:00:51","date_gmt":"2023-09-12T15:00:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/canadas-toronto-mcgill-and-british-columbia-universities-ranked-in-top-50-worldwide\/"},"modified":"2023-09-13T23:38:46","modified_gmt":"2023-09-14T03:38:46","slug":"three-canadian-universities-ranked-in-top-50-worldwide","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/fr\/three-canadian-universities-ranked-in-top-50-worldwide\/","title":{"rendered":"Three Canadian Universities Ranked in Top 50 Worldwide"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\">Three Canadian\u00a0universities once again\u00a0made the top 50 of the <i>QS World University Rankings 2024: Top Global Universities<\/i>, hanging onto their coveted ranks, and another 16 universities in this country made the cut of being in the top 500 worldwide.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Those latest rankings by\u00a0QS\u00a0Quacquarelli Symonds, a provider of analytics and insight to the\u00a0global\u00a0higher education sector, reveal McGill\u00a0University, the\u00a0University\u00a0of Toronto, and the\u00a0University\u00a0of British Columbia are all among the best 50 universities\u00a0in the\u00a0world.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The University of Toronto (UofT) was the highest-ranked university in Canada, placing 21<span class=\"s1\"><sup>st<\/sup><\/span> with a score of 86.3, barely nudging out McGill University which scored 83.7 and placed 30<span class=\"s1\"><sup>th<\/sup><\/span>. The University of British Columbia (UBC) took the 34<span class=\"s1\"><sup>th<\/sup><\/span> spot with a score of 81.5.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">The 2024 ranking places UofT higher than at any other time since 2015, moving it up 13 spots from 34<span class=\"s1\"><sup>th<\/sup><\/span> last year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">But while UofT has improved in the rankings, McGill\u2019s standing has dropped, falling from the 21<span class=\"s1\"><sup>st<\/sup><\/span> spot in 2015 to the 30<span class=\"s1\"><sup>th<\/sup><\/span> place showing this year. Since 2017, that university on Canada\u2019s West Coast has risen from the 45<span class=\"s1\"><sup>th<\/sup><\/span> rank.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Other Canadian universities which ranked in the top 500 on the QS world ranking include:<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"p1\">Rank University Score<\/h3>\n<p class=\"p1\">111 University of Alberta 58.3<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">112 University of Waterloo 58.1<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">114 Western University 57.4<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">141 Universit\u00e9 de Montr\u00e9al 52.1<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">182 University of Calgary 47.9<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">189 McMaster University 46.8<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">203 University of Ottawa 45.2<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">209 Queen&rsquo;s University 44.5<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">298 Dalhousie University 34.9<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">318 Simon Fraser University 33.3<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">322 University of Victoria 33<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">345 University of Saskatchewan 31.5<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">353 York University 31.1<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">387 Concordia University 28.3<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">441 Universit\u00e9 Laval 25.9<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">486 University of Guelph 23.7<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Most of the roughly 800,000 foreign nationals who come to study at Canadian\u00a0universities\u00a0must apply for study permits.<\/p>\n<h3 class=\"p1\">International Students Can Work In Canada While Completing Studies<\/h3>\n<p class=\"p1\">A study permit, once issued, allows a foreign national to study in Canada at an approved institute for the duration of the specified course or program.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">There are exceptions. Foreign nationals do not require a study permit to go to school in Canada under the following conditions:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"ul1\">\n<li class=\"li1\">the course or program of study is less than six months in duration;<\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\">the student is a family member or staff of a foreign representative to Canada, or;<\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\">the student is a member of a foreign armed force.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p class=\"p1\"><b>Video<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><iframe title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/9pMHa85qwJU\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p class=\"p1\">To be eligible to study in Canada students must:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"ul1\">\n<li class=\"li1\">have been accepted by a school,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/find-colleges-canada\/\"><span class=\"s4\">college<\/span><\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/find-universities-canada\/\"><span class=\"s4\">university<\/span><\/a>\u00a0or other educational institution in Canada;<\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\">have proven they have enough money to pay for their tuition fees, living expenses, and return transportation for themselves and any family members who come with them to Canada.<\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\">be law-abiding citizens with no criminal record and not a risk to the security of Canada. They may have to provide a police certificate;<\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\">be in good health and willing to complete a medical examination, if necessary, and;<\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\">satisfy an immigration officer they will leave Canada at the end of their authorized stay.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"p1\">A\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/test\/canada-visit-visa-overview\/\"><span class=\"s4\">Temporary Resident Visa (TRV)<\/span><\/a>\u00a0may also be required if the student is a citizen of a country from which such visas are required for entry into\u00a0Canada. This is not required for citizens of<a href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/test\/canada-visit-visa-overview\/\"><span class=\"s4\">\u00a0visa-exempt countries<\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) allows students to work while studying in Canada.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">A student may be able to work in Canada during his or her studies under the following categories:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"ul1\">\n<li class=\"li2\"><span class=\"s7\"><a href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/fr\/travailler-etudier-au-canada\/\"><span class=\"s8\">On campus without a Work Permit<\/span><\/a><\/span><span class=\"s3\">;<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li2\"><span class=\"s7\"><a href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/fr\/travailler-etudier-au-canada\/\"><span class=\"s8\">Off campus with a Work Permit<\/span><\/a><\/span><span class=\"s3\">;<\/span><\/li>\n<li class=\"li1\">In\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/test\/canada-internships-and-co-op-programs\/\"><span class=\"s4\">Co-op and Internship Programs<\/span><\/a>, where work experience is part of the curriculum, with a Work Permit.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"p1\">Spouses or common-law partners of foreign students are also eligible for work permits for the duration of the study permit.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Upon graduation, a foreign student may apply for a work permit under the Post-Graduation Work Permit Program.
