It helps international students search for study programs, get cost estimates, apply for scholarships and plan their lives in Canada.<\/p>\n<p>Canada generally has primary schools for students up to Grade 6, then middle schools for Grades 7 and 8, and secondary schools for Grades 9 through to 12. This varies somewhat from province to province.<\/p>\n<p>After secondary school, students in Canada can go to:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>colleges;<\/li>\n<li>universities;<\/li>\n<li>private career colleges, or;<\/li>\n<li>vocational and technical schools.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u201cEach post-secondary school has its own set of rules on how to apply, including the level of English or French you need to be accepted,\u201d notes Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) on its website.<\/p>\n<p>Perhaps one of the most important things an international student has to know is that the school to which they are applying must be a <a href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/fr\/designated-learning-institutions-with-approved-covid-19-readiness-plans-for-international-students\/\">Designated Learning Institution<\/a> (DLI) for their study permit to be accepted.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>These DLIs are schools approved by the provinces and territories to enrol international students and automatically include all primary and secondary schools in Canada.<\/p>\n<p>International students can search a list of post-secondary schools, such as colleges and universities, and language schools that are DLIs in each province and territory on the federal government\u2019s website <a href=\"https:\/\/www.canada.ca\/en\/immigration-refugees-citizenship\/services\/study-canada\/study-permit\/prepare\/designated-learning-institutions-list.html\" rel=\"noopener\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Since many international students want to work in Canada upon graduation with a PGWP, it is important for them to know before they start their studies that not all DLIs and programs make them eligible for this work permit.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Changes To PGWP-Eligible DLIs In Quebec Coming In September<\/h3>\n<p>\u201cAlong with graduating from a PGWP-eligible designated learning institution, you need to meet all other criteria to get a post-graduation work permit,\u201d notes the IRCC.<\/p>\n<p>Every so often there are changes to the eligibility requirements for the PGWP, such as those which are to take effect this coming school year for some programs at DLIs in Quebec. Those changes do not affect those who will have completed their programs by Sept. 1 this year.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>But those who began their programs after that date will only be able to apply for a PGWP if they graduate from a subsidized program of study that remains eligible for the PGWP after Sept. 1, 2023.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you are studying in a program that will no longer be eligible for the PGWP after Sept. 1, 2023, the time you spent studying in the program prior to that date may be counted towards a PGWP in the future,\u201d notes the IRCC.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><b>Video<\/b><\/p>\n<p><iframe title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/WuxcouFfpkU\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>Once an international student has chosen a school, college or university, they must apply to go there and follow that school\u2019s admission requirements. The admission fees can vary considerably from one school to another.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u201cApplication fees for universities in Canada range between $50 to $250,\u201d notes Yocket. \u201cThese are non-refundable fees which means if you are not selected, or you do not wish to confirm your offer at a particular college, you will not recover the application fee once paid.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Canadian immigration officials suggest applying at least six months in advance to study at a primary or secondary school and one year in advance for a post-secondary program at a university or college.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cContact the school where you want to study to learn how to apply,\u201d notes the IRCC. \u201cThey\u2019ll give you the list of all the documents you need to send them. They\u2019ll also be able to tell you about: the cost to apply; tuition fees; health insurance; rent and how much it costs to live in Canada, and; language tests.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Schools in Canada send international students acceptance letters once they have been admitted and that letter is a very important part of the application process for a study permit.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s at the point that a college or university has accepted an international student that he or she should apply for a study permit.<\/p>\n<p>That is usually done <a href=\"https:\/\/www.canada.ca\/en\/immigration-refugees-citizenship\/services\/study-canada\/study-permit\/apply.html\" rel=\"noopener\">online<\/a> but those who suffer from a disability or some other barrier that prevents them from applying online or makes applying online unreliable can be exempted from this requirement and submit a paper application.<\/p>\n<p>International students applying to a school in Quebec, will also receive, along with their acceptance letter, a Certificat d\u2019Acceptation du Qu\u00e9bec (CAQ) and must include this document in their study permit applications.<\/p>\n<h3>International Students Urged To Get Adequate Health Insurance<\/h3>\n<p>International students are responsible for their own healthcare costs as neither Canada nor the provinces pay for the medical costs of foreign students.
