There\u2019s an ongoing shortage of landscape architects in Canada demand for these professionals is expected to continue for at least eight years, says the Canada Job<\/a> Bank, the federal government\u2019s job-hunting and career-planning website.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe labour shortage conditions seen in recent years is expected to persist into the 2022 – 2031 period,\u201d notes Job Bank.<\/p>\n

That means opportunities for foreign nationals hoping to get their\u00a0permanent residence<\/a>\u00a0here through\u00a0Express Entry<\/a>\u00a0occupation-targeted draws.<\/p>\n

Under the changes announced by IRCC at the end of May Express Entry will now be more responsive to labour market needs through occupation-targeted draws.<\/p>\n

Programs covered under Express Entry include the Federal Skilled Worker<\/a> (FSW) program, Federal Skilled Trades<\/a> (FST) program and Canadian Experience Class<\/a> (CEC), as well as parts of the Provincial Nominee Programs<\/a> (PNP).<\/p>\n

\u201cEverywhere I go, I\u2019ve heard loud and clear from employers across the country who are experiencing chronic labour shortages,\u201d said Immigration Minister Sean Fraser.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese changes to the Express Entry system will ensure that they have the skilled workers they need to grow and succeed. We can also grow our economy and help businesses with labour shortages while also increasing the number of French-proficient candidates to help ensure the vitality of French-speaking communities.\u201d<\/p>\n

Landscape architect,\u00a0categorized under the\u00a0National Occupational Classification (NOC) 2021<\/a>\u00a0system with the code\u00a021201, is one of the 82 occupations that will now be targeted under these new Express Entry draws.<\/p>\n

That opens up opportunities for foreign nationals to immigrate to Canada through the Express Entry system if they can land any of the 37 jobs available for\u00a0landscape architects Indeed.ca had listed in Canada in early June \u2013 or any future such jobs that may open up.<\/p>\n

The greatest demand for\u00a0landscape architects is undoubtedly in Canada\u2019s most populous province, Ontario, where Job Bank ranked job prospects for these professionals as \u201cgood\u201d and in Alberta and British Columbia where job prospects were deemed to be \u201cmoderate\u201d over the coming three years.<\/p>\n

Fuelling the growth in\u00a0the landscaping\u00a0sector is government investment in parks. The City of Edmonton is opening a new, 190-acre park this summer. British Columbia is investing $100 million in its Safety Rest Area Improvement program to improve amenities along its highways, including upping its game with\u00a0landscaping\u00a0and maintenance.<\/p>\n

Ottawa is investing $40 million to plant 275,000 trees in two regions, Montreal and the Mont\u00e9r\u00e9gie, while Winnipeg is hiring hundreds for seasonal jobs, including maintenance of its municipal-owned properties.<\/p>\n
