{"id":123489,"date":"2023-07-20T17:46:04","date_gmt":"2023-07-20T21:46:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/sudbury-gets-boost-to-its-rural-and-northern-immigration-pilot-allotment\/"},"modified":"2023-07-20T17:46:04","modified_gmt":"2023-07-20T21:46:04","slug":"sudbury-gets-boost-to-its-rural-and-northern-immigration-pilot-allotment","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/fr\/sudbury-gets-boost-to-its-rural-and-northern-immigration-pilot-allotment\/","title":{"rendered":"Sudbury Gets Boost To Its Rural And Northern Immigration Pilot Allotment"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Canada raised the number of foreign nationals allowed to immigrate to Sudbury in northern Ontario through the <a href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/fr\/rural-and-northern-immigration-pilot\/\">Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot<\/a>\u00a0(RNIP) by 58.4 per cent last week, to 515 from 325.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have seen first-hand the importance of this program across our region,\u201d said Sudbury MP Viviane Lapointe.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u201cNot only has the program directly addressed gaps and challenges such as the labour shortages but it also continues to drive economic prosperity for our communities in ways that will have a generational impact.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have heard directly from employers about how beneficial this program has been to attract workers, grow and expand businesses, and create economic opportunities within our communities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Through the five-year\u00a0RNIP,\u00a0which is expected to be made into a permanent immigration program soon, skilled immigrants are recruited to work in smaller communities with aging populations and labour shortages.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><b>Read More<\/b><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/fr\/new-brunswick-express-entry-draws-province-issued-121-invitations-to-apply-in-june\/\">New Brunswick Express Entry Draws: Province Issued 121 Invitations To Apply In June<\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/fr\/canada-invests-10-5m-in-two-organizations-for-pre-arrival-settlement-services\/\">Canada Invests $10.5m In Two Organizations For Pre-Arrival Settlement Services<\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/fr\/manitoba-issues-540-canada-immigration-invitations-in-new-pnp-draw\/\">Manitoba Issues 540 Canada Immigration Invitations In New PNP Draw<\/a><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>\u201cFrom my perspective, the Rural and Northern Immigration Program has been an enormous success,\u201d Immigration Minister Sean Fraser has reportedly said.<\/p>\n<p>Fraser has cautioned that evaluating the\u00a0RNIP\u2019s performance will be somewhat difficult because it was launched during the pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe haven&rsquo;t made formally a decision to make the program permanent yet, not because we don&rsquo;t like the program, but because the first few years of the program&rsquo;s existence happened under very challenging circumstances during the COVID-19 pandemic,\u00a0\u00bb he reportedly said.<\/p>\n<p>The immigration minister has said the only critical feedback he\u2019s received about the RNIP is that the communities that benefit from the program would like to bring more people in through it.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s exactly what\u2019s happening for Sudbury, much to the delight of the city\u2019s mayor and local employers.<\/p>\n<p>\u00ab\u00a0Immigration plays a vital role in growing our population and economy as well as enriching the social and cultural fabric of our community,\u201d said Sudbury Mayor Paul Lefebvre.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe RNIP program has provided a valuable pathway for newcomers to choose to grow their careers here in Northern Ontario, while simultaneously addressing the needs of local employers seeking specialized and skilled talent.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>Sudbury Mayor, Chamber Of Commerce Exec Delighted To See RNIP Numbers Upped<\/h3>\n<p>At the Greater Sudbury Chamber of Commerce, chief executive officer Debbi Nicholson agreed.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Greater Sudbury Chamber of Commerce applauds the federal government for increasing Sudbury allotment of RNIP candidates,\u201d said Nicholson.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe RNIP program has been a significant contributor to our local talent pool and has helped many area businesses find skilled workers to fill vacancies. These talented new immigrants and their families provide a wealth of benefits to our community.\u201d<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><b>Watch Video<\/b><\/p>\n<p><iframe title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/iavh_quaLFI\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>Through the RNIP, 1,103 immigrants have been able to gain their permanent residency and settle in Sudbury.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is great to see the expansion and success of the Northern Rural Immigration Pilot Project so far,\u201d said Nickel Belt MP Marc G. Serr\u00e9.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSince its inception, RNIP has facilitated the process of attracting skilled immigrant workers to meet the needs of businesses and to grow communities. I look forward to seeing the continued increase in social and economic development in the Nickel Belt area as more applicants are matched to our region.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>To be included in the pilot, communities must:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>have a population of 50,000 or less and be located at least 75km from the core of a census metropolitan area, or;<\/li>\n<li>have a population of up to 200,000 people and is considered remote from other larger cities, according to the Statistics Canada Remoteness Index.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Fraser\u2019s suggestion that the\u00a0RNIP\u00a0would continue in some form beyond next year has been music to the ears of participating communities\u2019 mayors.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI&rsquo;ve heard first-hand from employers that had it not been for the (RNIP) program, you know, they might not have been able to stay open into the next year,\u201d Timmins Mayor Michelle Boileau reportedly told the CBC.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo, it&rsquo;s having a very positive impact on our business community.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>RNIP Applicants Must Meet Both Federal And Provincial Requirements<\/h3>\n<p>There are currently 11 participating communities in the pilot program. It must, however, include most of the main and essential duties listed in the National Occupational Classification (NOC) and unpaid and self-employed hours do not count.<\/p>\n<p>Candidates who are international students are exempt from needing work experience provided they either graduated with a master\u2019s or doctoral degree or:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>graduated with a credential from a minimum two-year-long post-secondary program in the recommended community;<\/li>\n<li>were studying as a full-time student for the full duration of two or more years;<\/li>\n<li>received the credential no more than 18 months before the date of application for permanent residence, and;<\/li>\n<li>they were in the community for at least 16 of the last 24 months spent studying to get the credential.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Those who graduated with the higher degrees must still:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>have studied as a full-time student for the duration of the degree in the recommended community;<\/li>\n<li>received the degree no more than 18 months before applying for permanent residence, and;<\/li>\n<li>have been in the community for the length of their studies.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Proof Of Sufficient Funds Is Required Under The RNIP<\/h3>\n<p>There are basic minimum language requirements for the\u00a0RNIP\u00a0with the level required based on the classification of the job under the National Occupational Classification system. Candidates must also have a Canadian high school diploma or an equivalent foreign credential with an accredited Educational Credential Assessment (ECA) report.<\/p>\n<p>The language proficiency can be demonstrated through either the Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB) or Niveaux de comp\u00e9tence linguistique canadiens (NCLC) standards.<\/p>\n<p>These results must be submitted from a designated language test and be less than two years old at the time of the application.<\/p>\n<p>Under the program, applicants must demonstrate they have enough money to support themselves and family members while they get settled in their community.
