{"id":121098,"date":"2023-05-26T11:27:37","date_gmt":"2023-05-26T15:27:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/canada-thanks-kenya-for-support-on-sudan\/"},"modified":"2023-05-26T11:39:49","modified_gmt":"2023-05-26T15:39:49","slug":"canada-thanks-kenya-for-support-on-sudan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/fr\/canada-thanks-kenya-for-support-on-sudan\/","title":{"rendered":"Canada Thanks Kenya For Support On Sudan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Canada has thanked Kenya for its help with its pledge to help Sudanese nationals apply to extend their stays.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCanada values its close ties to Kenya and recognizes the tremendous economic, cultural and social benefits that Kenyans bring when they choose to immigrate to Canada,\u201d noted the Canadian immigration minister and Dr. Alfred Mutua, Kenya\u2019s cabinet secretary for foreign affairs, in a joint statement.<\/p>\n<p>During their meeting, the Canadian immigration minister thanked the Kenyan cabinet secretary for his country\u2019s support of the Canadian response to the conflict in Sudan.<\/p>\n<p>In mid-April this year, the Rapid Support Forces attacked Sudanese government sites with airstrikes, gunshots and artillery being reported across Sudan, including Khartoum, the capital city.<\/p>\n<p>Even before that latest conflict, though, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees was already reporting there were 142,190 Sudanese refugees within its borders as of June 22 last year.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><b>Read More Canada Immigration News<\/b><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cimmigrationnews.com\/sudanese-nationals-allowed-to-extend-stays-in-canada-and-change-status-free-of-charge\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Sudanese Nationals Allowed To Extend Stays In Canada And Change Status Free Of Charge<\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cimmigrationnews.com\/special-canada-immigration-measures-introduced-for-sudan-nationals\/\" rel=\"noopener\">Special Canada Immigration Measures Introduced For Sudan Nationals<\/a><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>Canada is offering a safe haven for Sudanese nationals already in the country.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Ottawa began to help\u00a0Sudanese\u00a0nationals in Canada about two weeks ago by waiving fees so they can extend their stays or change their statuses as\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/fr\/visa-canadien-temporaire-apercu\/\">visitors<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/fr\/etudier-au-canada-etre-admis-une-universite-ou-un-college-canadien\/\">students<\/a>\u00a0or\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/fr\/visa-de-travail-canadien-travailler-au-canada\/\">temporary workers<\/a>\u00a0free of charge.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCanada continues to call for an end to violence in\u00a0Sudan\u00a0and stands with the\u00a0Sudanese\u00a0people as they strive for peace,\u201d said Fraser.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMany\u00a0Sudanese\u00a0nationals currently in Canada can\u2019t return home due to the dangerous and volatile situation in their home country. That\u2019s why we\u2019re taking steps to help them extend their stay here, so they can remain with their families, continue with their studies or find work in safety.\u201d<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><b>Watch<\/b><\/p>\n<p><iframe title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/1Ly69XLsj0A\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) is offering free\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/fr\/open-work-permit-in-canada\/\">open work permits<\/a>\u00a0that provide access to the labour market and greater flexibility for\u00a0Sudanese\u00a0nationals to support themselves while they are in Canada.<\/p>\n<p>IRCC officials explained some permanent residence applicants outside Canada might not have access to their\u00a0Sudanese\u00a0travel documents.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are therefore waiving the requirement to hold a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/fr\/canadian-passports-power-gains-one-point-on-index\/\">passport<\/a>\u00a0or travel document to be approved for a permanent resident visa to come to Canada,\u201d noted the IRCC in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese measures complement the fee waivers for passports and travel documents for Canadians and permanent residents of Canada in\u00a0Sudan, and the prioritization of completed applications already in our system for temporary and permanent residence from people in\u00a0Sudan\u00a0for when it is safe to travel.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>CBSA Puts Halt On Deporting Sudanese Nationals<\/h3>\n<p>The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) has also issued a temporary halt on removals to\u00a0Sudan.
