{"id":119943,"date":"2023-05-07T19:26:23","date_gmt":"2023-05-07T23:26:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/canada-beats-australia-and-us-as-favourite-destination-for-international-students\/"},"modified":"2023-05-07T19:26:23","modified_gmt":"2023-05-07T23:26:23","slug":"canada-beats-australia-and-us-as-favourite-destination-for-international-students","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/fr\/canada-beats-australia-and-us-as-favourite-destination-for-international-students\/","title":{"rendered":"Canada Beats Australia And US As Favourite Destination For International Students"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>More than 21,000 students from 100 countries picked Canada as the most popular destination to study abroad in a survey by a global student recruitment firm.<\/p>\n<p>In its <i>Emerging Futures 3<\/i> research report, IDP Connect reveals Canada beat out Australia and the United States as the best place for international students to pursue their education.<\/p>\n<p>Canada was picked as the top choice by 27 per cent of international students, Australia by 23, and the United States by 21 per cent. The United Kingdom ranked fourth with 18 per cent of respondents choosing that country.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>New Zealand placed a distant fourth with only three per cent of international students choosing it as their favourite destination and Ireland was chosen by only two per cent of these students.<\/p>\n<p>The opportunities afforded to international students to work while they study and then get <a href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/fr\/post-graduation-work-permit\/\">Post-Graduate Work Permits<\/a> (PGWP) and then immigrate to Canada through <a href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/fr\/canada-express-entry-immigration\/\">Express Entry<\/a> system programs seems to be heavily influencing their decision to want to come here.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><b>Read More<\/b><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/fr\/employers-in-canada-increasingly-recruiting-tech-workers-abroad-due-to-serious-labour-shortages\/\">Employers In Canada Increasingly Recruiting Tech Workers Abroad Due To Serious Labour Shortages<\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/fr\/canada-welcomes-30000th-afghan-refugee-since-fall-of-country-to-taliban\/\">Canada Welcomes 30,000th Afghan Refugee Since Fall Of Country To Taliban<\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/fr\/canadas-government-worker-strike-hits-immigration-processing-capabilities\/\">Canada\u2019s Government Worker Strike Hits Immigration Processing Capabilities<\/a><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>\u201cGlobally, 63 per cent of students say post-study work is the main or an influencing factor in where they study,\u201d notes the IDP Connect report. \u2018Post-study work programs are helping drive demand and generate interest from a range of countries.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOver half of students say that the availability of post-study work opportunities was important in their decision about where to study. By creating clearer pathways from education to employment, destination countries will see demand increase from a greater number and more diverse set of countries.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Immigration Minister Sean Fraser is bullish on the recruitment of international students as a potential source of future immigrants to Canada and a skilled workforce that will help resolve the country\u2019s labour shortages.<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this year, he gave foreign nationals with expired or expiring PGWPs yet another 18-month extension.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe need to use every tool in our toolbox to support employers who continue to face challenges in hiring the workers they need to grow,\u201d said Fraser.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAt the same time, we\u2019re providing international graduates whose\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/fr\/visa-de-travail-canadien-travailler-au-canada\/\">work\u00a0permit<\/a>\u00a0is expiring or has expired with some additional time to stay in Canada to gain valuable\u00a0work\u00a0experience and potentially qualify to become a permanent resident.\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>Immigration Minister Extended The PGWP Deadline This Year<\/h3>\n<p>PGWPs are not usually renewable but since Apr. 6 this year international graduates with one of these permits which expired last year or earlier this year have been able to qualify for an additional or extended\u00a0work\u00a0permit\u00a0to stay longer and gain additional\u00a0work\u00a0experience for up to 18 months.<\/p>\n<p>Those with expired\u00a0work\u00a0permits are now able to restore their status, even if they are beyond the 90-day restoration period and receive an interim\u00a0work\u00a0authorization while awaiting processing of their new\u00a0work\u00a0permit\u00a0application.<\/p>\n<p>Tens of thousands of international students successfully transition to permanent residence each year, including more than 157,000 in 2021, a record high, and nearly 95,000 in 2022, the second-highest total ever.<\/p>\n<p>There were more than 286,000 international graduates in Canada with PGWPs at the end of last year, the latest data from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) reveals.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><b>Watch<\/b><\/p>\n<p><iframe title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/1Ly69XLsj0A\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>The latest extension to the PGWP is the third time Canada has allowed international students to renew their PGWPs and relieved their worries about being able to stay in Canada.<\/p>\n<p>Many such international grads have feared their\u00a0PGWPs would expire before having an opportunity to apply for permanent residency under the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/fr\/canadian-experience-class-cec\/\">Canadian Experience Class<\/a>\u00a0(CEC),\u00a0<i>CityNews Ottawa<\/i>\u00a0reported last year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen I was given this last\u00a0extension\u00a0[in 2021], my understanding was that it was meant for people to transition to permanent residents,\u201d Gaurav Purohit, a finance professional whose\u00a0work\u00a0permit\u00a0was to expire in October last year, reportedly told CityNews Ottawa.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut then the process for transitioning people from\u00a0post-graduate\u00a0work\u00a0permits to permanent residents was stopped for probably like 10 months.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>With the extension announced last year, Purohit was given another opportunity to stay in the country.<\/p>\n<p>Under the CEC program, applicants need to demonstrate they have at least a year\u2019s worth of\u00a0work\u00a0experience.<\/p>\n<h3>Higher CRS Scores Improve An Applicant\u2019s Chances Of Getting An ITA<\/h3>\n<p>In the draws for\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/fr\/invitations-apply-permanent-residence-itas\/\">Invitations to Apply<\/a>\u00a0(ITA) under that program, the IRCC scours the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/fr\/how-express-entry-works\/\">Express Entry<\/a>\u00a0pool of profiles which are ranked according to their\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/fr\/comprehensive-ranking-system-crs\/\">Comprehensive Ranking System<\/a>\u00a0(CRS) scores, with those applicants with higher scores being more likely to receive an ITA.<\/p>\n<p>By having more\u00a0work\u00a0experience in Canada, applicants gain more points.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe government recognizes that\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/fr\/visa-etudiant-canada\/\">international students<\/a>\u00a0are an important source of future permanent residents,\u201d said\u00a0an IRCC spokesperson last year. \u201cOf the 406,005 people who became permanent residents in 2021, more than 157,000 were former international students, a new record.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>More than 21,000 students from 100 countries picked Canada as the most popular destination to study abroad in a survey by a global student recruitment firm.
