{"id":111714,"date":"2023-03-01T09:21:07","date_gmt":"2023-03-01T14:21:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/visitors-to-canada-can-continue-to-apply-for-work-permits-without-leaving\/"},"modified":"2023-03-01T09:34:23","modified_gmt":"2023-03-01T14:34:23","slug":"visitors-to-canada-can-continue-to-apply-for-work-permits-without-leaving","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/fr\/visitors-to-canada-can-continue-to-apply-for-work-permits-without-leaving\/","title":{"rendered":"Visitors To Canada Can Continue To Apply For Work Permits Without Leaving"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Foreign nationals in Canada as visitors can apply for <a href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/fr\/visa-de-travail-canadien-travailler-au-canada\/\">work permits<\/a> without leaving the country for at least another two years following the extension of a temporary public policy announced during the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>The federal government is hoping the extension of the public policy will be a boon to employers who are having a hard time filling jobs due to a severe labour shortage in Canada.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis COVID-era temporary public policy has been extended by two years, until Feb. 28, 2025,\u201d noted Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) in a statement.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><b>Read More<\/b><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/fr\/manitoba-targets-specific-occupations-in-new-canada-immigration-draw\/\">Manitoba Targets Specific Occupations In New Canada Immigration Draw<\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/canada-more-than-doubles-number-of-new-immigrants-under-parents-and-grandparents-program\/\">Canada More Than Doubles Number Of New Immigrants Under Parents And Grandparents Program<\/a><br \/>\n<a href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/fr\/canada-immigration-minister-kicks-off-fact-finding-tour-to-see-what-canadians-think-of-policies\/\">Canada Immigration Minister Kicks Off Fact-Finding Tour To See What Canadians Think Of Policies<\/a><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>\u201cLeaving this temporary policy in place makes visitors an option for employers in Canada as many are facing significant labour shortages during this period of economic expansion.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Foreign nationals in Canada as visitors need to have a valid job offer to be able to apply for these work permits.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cVisitors applying under this public policy who held a work permit within the last 12 months will also continue to be able to request interim work authorization to begin working for their new employer more quickly,\u201d notes the IRCC.<\/p>\n<p>Applicant looking to benefit from this temporary public policy must:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>have valid status in Canada as a visitor on the day they apply;<\/li>\n<li>have a job offer that is supported by a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) or an LMIA-exempt offer of employment;<\/li>\n<li>submit an application for an employer-specific work permit no later than Feb. 28, 2025, and;<\/li>\n<li>meet all other standard admissibility criteria.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This temporary public policy first came into effect on Aug.24, 2020, smack in the middle of the first year of the pandemic when immigration to Canada was plummeting.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>IRCC data reveals that after welcoming 341,175 new permanent residents to Canada in 2019, the country saw\u00a0immigration\u00a0fall\u00a0by 45.9 per cent, to only 184,585 new permanent residents in 2020.<\/p>\n<h3>Immigration To Canada Dropped During First Year Of Pandemic But Then Rebounded<\/h3>\n<p>Immigration to Canada quickly rebounded in 2021 to 406,005 new permanent residents and then rose to set a new record again last year with 437,120 new permanent residents.<\/p>\n<p>That level of\u00a0immigration\u00a0is expected to grow over the coming years.<\/p>\n<p>In its\u00a0<i>2023-2025\u00a0Immigration\u00a0Levels\u00a0Plan<\/i>, Ottawa has set the target for 2023 at 465,000 new permanent residents. The country is to welcome 485,000 new permanent residents in 2024 and another 500,000 in 2025.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><b>Video<\/b><\/p>\n<p><iframe title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/WuxcouFfpkU\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>That\u2019s a total of 1.45 million immigrants to Canada over the coming three years.<\/p>\n<p>Canada issues two types of work permits: employer-specific work permits and open work permits.<\/p>\n<p>Employer-specific work permits include conditions such as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>name of a specific employer;<\/li>\n<li>how long a candidate can work, and;<\/li>\n<li>the location of a candidate\u2019s work.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Candidates applying for an employer-specific work permit must get a positive LMIA from their employer or an offer of employment before applying.<\/p>\n<p>Open work permits, in contrast, allows the foreign national to work for any employer in Canada but they are issued only in specific circumstances.<\/p>\n<p>Canadian employers can also recruit and hire foreign nationals through the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/fr\/visa-de-travail-canadien-travailler-au-canada\/\">Temporary Foreign Worker\u00a0Program\u00a0<\/a>(TFWP) and the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/fr\/international-mobility-program\/\">International\u00a0Mobility Program\u00a0<\/a>(IMP).<\/p>\n<h3>TFWP Allows Foreign Nationals To Come Work In Canada<\/h3>\n<p>The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/fr\/canada-work-permit-global-talent-stream\/\">Global\u00a0Talent\u00a0Stream\u00a0<\/a>(GTS), a part of the\u00a0TFWP, can under normal processing situations lead\u00a0to\u00a0the granting of Canadian work permits and the processing of visa applications within two weeks.<\/p>\n<p>Under the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/fr\/how-express-entry-works\/\">Express Entry system<\/a>,\u00a0immigrants can also apply for\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/guidelines-issuing-permanent-resident-visas-foreign-nationals\/\">permanent residency<\/a>\u00a0online if they meet the eligibility criteria for one of three federal immigration programs,\u00a0the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/fr\/requirements-federal-skilled-worker-program\/\">Federal Skilled Worker Program<\/a>\u00a0(FSW),\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/fr\/requirements-federal-skilled-trades-program\/\">Federal Skilled Trades Program<\/a>\u00a0(FST), and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/fr\/requirements-canada-experience-class-program\/\">Canada Experience Class Program<\/a>\u00a0(CEC),\u00a0\u00a0or a\u00a0participating provincial immigration program.<\/p>\n<p>Candidates\u2019 profiles then are ranked against each other according to a points-based system called the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/fr\/comprehensive-ranking-system-crs\/\">Comprehensive Ranking System<\/a>\u00a0(CRS). The highest-ranked candidates will be considered for an\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/fr\/invitations-apply-permanent-residence-itas\/\">Invitation to Apply<\/a>\u00a0(ITA) for permanent residence. Those receiving an ITA must quickly submit a full application and pay processing fees, within a delay of 90 days.<\/p>\n<p>Through a network of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/fr\/appercu-des-programmes-des-candidats-des-provinces\/\">Provincial Nominee Programs\u00a0<\/a>(PNP), almost all of\u00a0Canada\u2019s ten provinces and three territories can also nominate skilled worker candidates for admission to\u00a0Canada\u00a0when they have the specific skills required by local economies.
