{"id":10788,"date":"2016-09-08T20:24:23","date_gmt":"2016-09-08T20:24:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/immigrationca.staging.wpengine.com\/fr\/?p=10788"},"modified":"2016-09-08T20:24:23","modified_gmt":"2016-09-08T20:24:23","slug":"new-brunswick-teachers-struggle-cope-influx-refugee-students","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/fr\/new-brunswick-teachers-struggle-cope-influx-refugee-students\/","title":{"rendered":"New Brunswick Teachers Struggle to Cope with Influx of Refugee Students"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Teachers in New Brunswick were overwhelmed by the sudden influx of Syrian refugee students earlier this year leading to chaos in some classrooms, according to a report.<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"img8829\" class=\"alignright\" title=\"New Brunswick Teachers Struggle to Cope with Influx of Refugee Students\" src=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/images\/newbrunsick.jpg\" alt=\"Teachers in New Brunswick were overwhelmed by the sudden influx of Syrian refugee students\" width=\"415\" height=\"135\" border=\"0\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Schools were not prepared for new students who hadn\u2019t been educated regularly for years, did not speak English and came from war-torn areas of the Middle East.<\/p>\n<p>The result was a whirlwind of poor behaviour, bullying and problems surrounding gender roles as teachers were left to deal with a difficult adjustment phase often without the help of translators.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Refugees in numbers<\/h3>\n<p><strong>28,755<\/strong>Syrians admitted to Canada since Liberals came to power in November<\/p>\n<p><strong>30,000<\/strong>more refugees set to arrive in 2016<\/p>\n<p><strong>11,000<\/strong>refugees privately sponsored by Canadians<\/p>\n<p><strong>$27,000<\/strong> per family of four: Amount it costs to settle refugees over course of a year<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>School staff said they had no idea how many students would be arriving meaning preparation was impossible and all teachers could do was react to the situation as it developed.<\/p>\n<p>Only when extra teachers were added to help cope was the situation brought under control. Even more staff are expected to be added in the fall.<\/p>\n<p>The problems arose as Justin Trudeau\u2019s Liberal government delivered on its campaign promise to welcome 25,000 Syrian refugees across Canada.<\/p>\n<p>Officials admitted there were hiccups during the push to bring in so many immigrants in such a short time, but declared the operation a success.<\/p>\n<p>Canada received the <a href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/canada-receives-immigrants-45-years\/\">highest number of immigrants for at least 45 years<\/a>\u00a0in the first three months of 2016, according to the latest figures.<\/p>\n<p>A Statistics Canada report shows 86,216 new immigrants entered the country between January 1 and April 1. The figure was driven by Syrians, with a current total of 28,755 welcomed into the country.<\/p>\n<p>Canada has been singled out as an example to the world following some global political surprises over the last few months.<\/p>\n<p>Donald Trump is set to be the Republican nominee for president of the United States, while Britain voted to leave the European Union in a recent referendum.
