{"id":10736,"date":"2016-09-08T19:17:30","date_gmt":"2016-09-08T19:17:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/immigrationca.staging.wpengine.com\/fr\/?p=10736"},"modified":"2016-09-08T19:17:30","modified_gmt":"2016-09-08T19:17:30","slug":"federal-government-targets-family-sponsorship-backlog","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/fr\/federal-government-targets-family-sponsorship-backlog\/","title":{"rendered":"Federal Government Targets Family Sponsorship Backlog"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The federal government has made reducing the backlog and bringing down wait times for\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/family-sponsorship-immigration-overview\/\">family sponsorship<\/a>\u00a0applications one of its immigration priorities for 2016.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">With an extra 14,000 places allocated for bringing in spouses, partners and dependent children of citizens and permanent residents, Justin Trudeau\u2019s Liberals say they will \u2018significantly reduce the backlog of existing applications and speed up processing times going forward\u2019.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-8648 \" title=\"The federal government has made reducing the backlog and bringing down wait times for family sponsorship applications one of its immigration priorities for 2016.\" src=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/shutterstock_94700359-300x220.jpg\" alt=\"Federal Government Targets Family Sponsorship Backlog\" width=\"312\" height=\"229\" srcset=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/shutterstock_94700359-300x220.jpg 300w, https:\/\/immigration.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/shutterstock_94700359-255x187.jpg 255w, https:\/\/immigration.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/shutterstock_94700359.jpg 500w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 312px) 100vw, 312px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Previously, numbers of applications for family sponsorship have exceeded the available spots, leaving some cases stuck for months and years in the approval pile.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">But with Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada pushing a family reunification agenda, they will spend $25 million on making sure those that qualify are admitted in a timely manner.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cTackling the spousal backlog will ease the uncertainty faced by spouses and partners wanting to move forward and build their lives in Canada with their family and help them integrate into our communities and our economy,\u201d the IRCC press release said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Family sponsorship involves a two-step process, first assessing the sponsor and then the applicant, although all documents can be submitted at the same time.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3 style=\"text-align: justify;\">To sponsor a family me\u00ad\u00ad\u00ad\u00admber:<\/h3>\n<ul style=\"text-align: justify;\">\n<li>You must be 18 or older.<\/li>\n<li>You and the sponsored relative must sign a sponsorship agreement that commits you to provide financial support for your relative, if necessary. This agreement also says the person becoming a permanent resident will make every effort to support her or himself.<\/li>\n<li>You must provide financial support for a spouse, common-law or conjugal partner for three years from the date they become a permanent resident.<\/li>\n<li>You must provide financial support for a dependent child for 10 years, or until the child turns 25, whichever comes first.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr \/>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The assessment of the sponsor focuses on whether they have the means to support the applicant, for three years in the case of a spouse or partner, and 10 years in the case of a dependent child.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In the case of spouse or partner sponsorship, the sponsor must also prove the relationship is genuine.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Parents and grandparents can also be sponsored, as well as any relative provided specific conditions are met.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Once the sponsor is approved, the applicant is then assessed, needing to submit to criminal record checks from all recent places of residence and undergo a medical, among other requirements.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The IRCC said that although the aim was to reduce processing times, the proper checks would still be made.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cReducing the backlog means complete and straightforward spousal sponsorship applications will be finalized faster,\u201d the IRCC said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cAll applications will continue to undergo the necessary screening to ensure that individuals do not pose a health, safety or security risk to Canadians and that the relationships are genuine.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The extra 14,000 places means there are 62,000 available for souse, partner and child sponsorship in 2016, plus a further 20,000 for parents and grandparents.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Interested employers:\u00a0<\/strong>Kindly\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/fr\/zone-employeurs-canadiens\/\">contact us<\/a>\u00a0here to receive further information.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Interested candidates:<\/strong>\u00a0Find out whether you qualify to Canada by completing our\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/fr\/formulaires-devaluation-gratuite-dimmigration\/\">free on-line evaluation<\/a>.
