with half<\/span><a name=\"_GoBack\"><\/a><span class=\"s2\">\u00a0its population born outside Canada.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s2\"><span class=\"s2\">The report was in response to a claim from new London mayor\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s2\">Sadiq<\/span><span class=\"s2\">\u00a0Khan, who claimed his city was the most diverse following his recent election.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s2\"><span class=\"s2\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" id=\"img5334\" class=\"alignright\" title=\"Toronto Declared Most Diverse City in World\" src=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/images\/photos\/shutterstock_147872069.jpg\" width=\"278\" height=\"186\" border=\"0\" \/><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s2\"><span class=\"s2\">But it turns out Khan was class=\"s2\">It can depend which measure is used when trying to measure diversity.\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s2\">Dubai, for example, has an 80 per cent foreign born population, but loses ground because the vast majority of those residents are Indian.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s2\"><span class=\"s2\">But Toronto always features highly no matter what data you use.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s2\"><span class=\"s2\">Toronto, and Canada as a whole, has been actively diversifying its population since the Second World War, accepting and welcoming immigrants where other co<\/span><span Montreal is currently struggling with, as well as the economic benefits that brings.<\/p>\n<p class=\"s2\"><span class=\"s2\">A recent study said immigrants were far more likely to start their own businesses than their Canadian-born peers, a key driver of economic growth.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s2\"><span class=\"s2\">Released in March 2016 and entitled<\/span><span class=\"s2\">\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.statcan.gc.ca\/pub\/11f0019m\/11f0019m2016375-eng.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span class=\"s9\">Immigration, Business Ownership and Employment in Canada<\/span><\/a><span class=\"s2\">, the study concludes that \u2018rates of private business ownership and unincorporated self-employment are higher among immigrants than among<\/span><span class=\"s2\">\u00a0the Canadian-born population\u2019.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"s2\"><span class=\"s2\">We know this officially for the first time because data based on immigrant business ownership has only recently become available with the introduction of the\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"s10\">Canadian Employer-Employee Dynamics Database<\/span><span class=\"s2\">, which you
