{"id":10626,"date":"2016-09-08T15:49:09","date_gmt":"2016-09-08T15:49:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/immigrationca.staging.wpengine.com\/fr\/?p=10626"},"modified":"2016-09-08T15:49:09","modified_gmt":"2016-09-08T15:49:09","slug":"canadian-agriculture-industry-provides-1-8-jobs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/fr\/canadian-agriculture-industry-provides-1-8-jobs\/","title":{"rendered":"Canadian Agriculture Industry Provides 1 in 8 Jobs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">A new report highlights just how important the agriculture industry is to the Canadian economy.<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-7859 \" src=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/canadian-farms-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Canadian Agriculture Industry Provides 1 in 8 Jobs\" width=\"263\" height=\"197\" srcset=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/canadian-farms-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/immigration.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/canadian-farms-249x187.jpg 249w, https:\/\/immigration.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/canadian-farms.jpg 516w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 263px) 100vw, 263px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The farming and food supply system provides one in every eight jobs, with over 2.3 million people employed in the various parts of the vast network.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The industry also employs more than 9,000 of Canada\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/canada-work-visa\/\">Temporary Foreign Workers<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cCanadian farmers can look forward to a promising future,\u201d said Lawrence MacAulay, Minister of Agriculture and Agri-Food.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThrough its continued support and investment in research and innovation, the government is working to ensure our agriculture and agri-food sector remains strong, while adapting to changing consumer demands, advances in technology and increasing globalization.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-7860 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/Canadian-Agriculture-Industry.png\" alt=\"Canadian Agriculture Industry\" width=\"410\" height=\"252\" srcset=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/Canadian-Agriculture-Industry.png 902w, https:\/\/immigration.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/Canadian-Agriculture-Industry-300x184.png 300w, https:\/\/immigration.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/Canadian-Agriculture-Industry-768x472.png 768w, https:\/\/immigration.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/Canadian-Agriculture-Industry-280x172.png 280w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 410px) 100vw, 410px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The annual report, entitled <strong>\u2018Overview of the Canadian Agriculture and Agri-Food System\u2019<\/strong>, attempts to give a full picture of the industry, from its value to the economy to its impact on the environment and use of land and water.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Farming generated $108.1 billion in 2014, representing 6.6 per cent of Canada\u2019s total GDP.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Exports grew 12.0 per cent between 2013 and 2014, hitting $51.5 billion. This represents 3.6 per cent of the world\u2019s agriculture export industry, and makes Canada the world\u2019s fifth largest exporter.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The increase is exports is set to grow in future, if <a href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/exports-grow-every-canadian-province-report-predicts\/\">projections from Export Development Canada<\/a> are to be believed.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Its Global Export Forecast report suggests exports will grow in every Canadian province between now and 2017.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">However, in the short term the latest Statistics Canada figures <a href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/canadas-trade-deficit-grows-3-4b\/\">showed a growing trade deficit<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The agriculture report took a special look at the environmental impact of agriculture in Canada.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Greenhouse gas emissions represent 10 per cent of Canada\u2019s total, while the industry uses seven per cent of the country\u2019s total land area.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">While water use is relatively low, the industry consumed 84 per cent of the two billion cubic metres it used in 2009.
