{"id":10606,"date":"2016-09-08T15:37:07","date_gmt":"2016-09-08T15:37:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/immigrationca.staging.wpengine.com\/fr\/?p=10606"},"modified":"2016-09-08T15:37:07","modified_gmt":"2016-09-08T15:37:07","slug":"ontario-immigrant-nominee-program-closes-highest-volume-streams-2016","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/fr\/ontario-immigrant-nominee-program-closes-highest-volume-streams-2016\/","title":{"rendered":"Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program Closes Highest Volume Streams for 2016"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/ontario-immigration\/\">Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program<\/a>\u00a0(OINP) has stopped accepting applications for its highest volume streams and the province wants the federal government to increase its allocation for skilled worker immigration.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-7824 \" src=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/shutterstock_176854394-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program Closes Highest Volume Streams for 2016\" width=\"269\" height=\"179\" srcset=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/shutterstock_176854394-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/immigration.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/shutterstock_176854394-768x511.jpg 768w, https:\/\/immigration.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/shutterstock_176854394-280x187.jpg 280w, https:\/\/immigration.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/shutterstock_176854394.jpg 1000w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 269px) 100vw, 269px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>As of May 9, applications for the Employer Pre-Screen and the International Student Category (both Masters and PhD) have been paused as the programs have reached targets for 2016.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Details of stopped or paused streams<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>Ontario stopped sending notifications of interest for the Human Capital Priorities (Express Entry) stream effective February 16, 2016.<\/li>\n<li>Ontario temporarily paused the intake of new applications for the following select, high-volume OINP streams effective 5pm EDT on May 9, 2016:\n<ol>\n<li>Employer Pre-Screen<\/li>\n<li>International Student \u2013 Masters Graduate stream<\/li>\n<li>International Student \u2013 PhD Graduate stream<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>* Any applications received after the cut off points will be returned, along with processing fees.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>\u201cOntario remains a top destination for workers and their families from all over the world,\u201d read a notification on the Ontario government website.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGiven the positive effect of the program on Ontario\u2019s economy, the province continues to engage the federal government on nominee numbers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The OINP is still accepting applications from foreign workers and international students, provided they have a job offer approved through the Employer Pre-Screen process. These applicants have 60 days from the date of the Employer Pre-screen approval letter to apply to either of these streams.<\/p>\n<p>The French-Speaking Skilled Worker stream is also still open for applications, as is the Ontario Corporate Stream. Expressions of interest are also being accepted under the Ontario Entrepreneur Stream.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Streams that remain open<\/h3>\n<ol>\n<li>Foreign workers and international students can still apply provided they have an approved job offer<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/ontario-express-entry-stream\/\">French-Speaking Skilled Worker Stream<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/ontario-corporate-stream-ocs-ontario-immigrant-nominee-program\/\">Ontario Corporate Stream<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/ontario-entrepreneur-stream-oes-ontario-nominee-program\/\">Ontario Entrepreneur Stream<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<hr \/>\n<p>The province expects to receive its federal allocation for 2017 before the end of November 2016. It expects to begin receiving applications for some streams in six months.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, British Columbia Premier Christy Clark recently led calls for the federal government to lift caps on the <a href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/canada-provincial-nominee-immigration-programs-overview\/\">Provincial Nominee Program,<\/a> saying the current limits acted as a constraint to the growth of Western Canada.<\/p>\n<p>Clark was speaking at a two-day conference in Vancouver, also attended by the premiers of Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Yukon, the Northwest Territories and Nunavut. Alberta\u2019s Rachel Notley was unable to due to the Fort McMurray wildfire.<\/p>\n<p>All of the provinces have their own PNPs so they can access immigrants suited to their needs.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3>Provincial immigration in numbers<\/h3>\n<p><strong>300,000<\/strong> immigrants enter Canada each year<\/p>\n<p><strong>120,000<\/strong> nominated or selected by the provinces in 2015<\/p>\n<p>Ontario\u2019s 2016 allocation was <strong>5,500<\/strong> immigrants, or <strong>1.8<\/strong> per cent of total immigration<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>In 2015, approximately 120,000 economic immigrants were nominated or selected by the provinces, with Quebec accounting for approximately 40,000 of that number.<\/p>\n<p>Quebec is the only province with the right to select its own immigrants.
