Trade agreements in the 1980s and 1990s dramatically bolstered trade with the U.S., and now the two counties are each other&rsquo;s largest trading partner,\u201d said the report.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile the service sector is Canada\u2019s biggest economic driver, the country is a significant exporter of energy, food and minerals. Canada ranks third in the world in proven oil reserves and is the world\u2019s fourth-largest oil producer.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The report commends Canada for its commitment to multiculturalism and its long list of accomplished writers and artists, its system of government, and its participation in United Nations peacekeeping missions throughout the world.<\/p>\n<p>Canada snagged an overall score of 97.8 in the rankings with high marks for its agility, quality of life and social purpose and openness to business but scored badly in terms of its perceived unpreparedness to weather the coming challenges posed by the global economy.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The rankings also revealed a rather ho-hum view of Canada\u2019s heritage which only got a score of 39.9 and the country\u2019s perceived power which was given a score of a paltry 43.3.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>In other recent rankings, Canada has regularly come out near the top for the quality of its universities and the livability of its cities.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Earlier this year, three\u00a0Canadian\u00a0cities \u2013 Calgary, Vancouver and Toronto \u2013 were deemed to be among the\u00a0top\u00a010 most liveable cities in the world by <i>The Economist Intelligence Unit<\/i> (EIU).<\/p>\n<h3>Calgary, Vancouver And Toronto Among The Top 10 Most Livable Cities In The World<\/h3>\n<p>\u201cThe\u00a0top\u00a010 of our\u00a0rankings\u00a0remains dominated by western European cities, along with several from\u00a0Canada,\u201d said the EIU. \u201cIn second place, behind Vienna, is Copenhagen, while Calgary has jumped from 18th (owing to the removal of COVID-19 restrictions) to join Zurich in joint third.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Bragging rights for being the most livable city in\u00a0Canada\u00a0went to Calgary, which tied with Zurich for the third spot globally. Vancouver came in second in\u00a0Canada\u00a0and fifth in the world \u2013 there was no fourth-place finisher \u2013 while Toronto officially became the third most livable city in\u00a0Canada\u00a0and the eighth\u00a0best\u00a0in the world.<\/p>\n<p>Mid-sized cities \u2013 in contrast to the mega-metropolises \u2013 in wealthy counties fared very well in the survey of 173 cities throughout the world dubbed\u00a0<i>The Global Liveability Index 2022: Recovery and Hardship<\/i>.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><b>Watch Video<\/b><\/p>\n<p><iframe title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/2WIqzzzTfYM\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>\u201cThe\u00a0top\u00a010 cities are also among those with few COVID-19 restrictions,\u201d said the report. \u201cShops, restaurants and museums have reopened, as have schools, and pandemic-led hospitalisation has declined, leading to less stress on healthcare resources and services, and even the requirement to wear masks is no longer in force in most situations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs a result, cities that were towards the\u00a0top\u00a0of our\u00a0rankings\u00a0before the pandemic has rebounded on the back of their stability,\u00a0good\u00a0infrastructure and services, as well as enjoyable leisure activities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In the world of higher education, a ranking\u00a0by QS Quacquarelli Symonds, a provider of analytics and insight to the global higher education sector, has proclaimed the University of Toronto and the University of British Columbia are among the\u00a0best\u00a050 universities in the world.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3>Toronto And British Columbia Among The World\u2019s 50 Best Universities<\/h3>\n<p>In its annual QS\u00a0Top\u00a0Universities\u00a0ranking, the organization also placed the University of Calgary and Simon Fraser University, in Vancouver, among the\u00a0top\u00a0quarter of universities worldwide.<\/p>\n<p>And in terms of immigration, the Anholt-Ipsos Nation Brands Index (NBI)\u00a0ranked\u00a0Canada\u00a0last year as the\u00a0top\u00a0country in the world for its immigration practices and investment climate.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFirst place\u00a0rankings\u00a0on the governance, people, and immigration and investment indices, as well as relatively steady\u00a0rankings\u00a0on exports, tourism, and culture contributed to\u00a0Canada\u2019s record\u00a0ranking\u00a0in 2021,\u201d said the report by Ipsos, the world\u2019s third largest Insights and analytics company.<\/p>\n<p>A key strategy in\u00a0Canada\u2019s plan to recover economically in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic is immigration.<\/p>\n<p>In its\u00a0<i>Immigration\u00a0Levels\u00a0Plan\u00a0for 2022 to 2024<\/i>,\u00a0Canada\u00a0is aiming to bring in 431,645 immigrants this year, 447,055 next year, and 451,000 in 2024.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cImmigration\u00a0has helped shape\u00a0Canada\u00a0into the country it is today. From farming and fishing to manufacturing, healthcare and the transportation sector,\u00a0Canada\u00a0relies on immigrants,\u201d said\u00a0Immigration\u00a0Minister Sean Fraser earlier this year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are focused on economic recovery, and\u00a0immigration\u00a0is the key to getting there.
