{"id":10524,"date":"2016-09-07T20:42:48","date_gmt":"2016-09-07T20:42:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/immigrationca.staging.wpengine.com\/fr\/?p=10524"},"modified":"2016-09-07T20:42:48","modified_gmt":"2016-09-07T20:42:48","slug":"alberta-immigrant-nominee-program-struggling-massive-backlog","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/fr\/alberta-immigrant-nominee-program-struggling-massive-backlog\/","title":{"rendered":"Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program Struggling With Massive Backlog"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-7523  alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/shutterstock_61993537-300x240.jpg\" alt=\"Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program struggling with massive backlog\" width=\"263\" height=\"210\" srcset=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/shutterstock_61993537-300x240.jpg 300w, https:\/\/immigration.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/shutterstock_61993537-768x614.jpg 768w, https:\/\/immigration.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/shutterstock_61993537-234x187.jpg 234w, https:\/\/immigration.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/08\/shutterstock_61993537.jpg 1000w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 263px) 100vw, 263px\" \/><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u2018Policy errors\u2019 made by the previous federal government are being blamed for a massive backlog of applications under the <a href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/alberta-immigration\/\">Alberta Immigrant Nominee Program (AINP)<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Thousands of <a href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/canada-work-visa\/\">temporary foreign workers<\/a> with pending applications for permanent residency backed by job offers are seeing their work permits expire.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Workers are desperate to stay, employers are desperate to keep them, but the paperwork cannot be processed quickly enough.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u00a0Alberta immigration authorities announced a five month suspension of new AINP applications last August with a pending backlog of more than 10,000. That suspension ended in January.<\/p>\n<table class=\"mceItemTable\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td><strong>AINP semi-skilled worker category<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Applicant must possess the qualifications necessary for a job offer in one of:\n<ul>\n<li>Food and Beverage<\/li>\n<li>Hospitality<\/li>\n<li>Manufacturing<\/li>\n<li>Trucking, transportation<\/li>\n<li>Food services<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>The applicant must be currently working in Alberta on a work permit for an eligible occupation in one of the above fields.<\/li>\n<li>The applicant must have completed at least a high school level of education.<\/li>\n<li>The applicant must meet minimum language requirements.<\/li>\n<li>Additional criteria apply for specific industries.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Alberta Labour Minister Christina Gray said: \u201cMany of the challenges we have in this program are a direct result of policy errors made by the former federal government in their changes to the federal Temporary Foreign Worker Program.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The changes along with the current economic climate have made it more difficult for workers in the province to renew their work permits, denying the province an ability to maintain existing levels of employment.\u00a0 For a province affected by the economic downturn caused by the falling price of oil, this dilemma is especially difficult to accept.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The AINP is restricted to issuing 5,500 nominations per year and the program has been inundated with new applications.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Currently, applications from 2014 are being processed, but for many in the country on temporary work permits, they will not be able to access the AINP.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Alberta Ministry of Labour says 53 per cent of applications are being denied.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The guidelines for the AINP state only that applications will take \u2018at least six months\u2019.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cYou\u2019re really wanting to keep them,\u201d one employer said.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cAnd those people in the past who have been here two, three, four years \u2014 those are really key employees.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cThey are being forced to leave and then we have to recruit again.\u00a0\u00bb<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Click\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/job-search-immigrants\/\">here<\/a>\u00a0to find out how we can help you find a job in Canada.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Interested employers:<\/strong>\u00a0Kindly\u00a0<a title=\"Unhappy with a President Trump: Welcome to Canada!\" href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/fr\/zone-employeurs-canadiens\/\">contact us<\/a>\u00a0here to receive further information.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Interested candidates:\u00a0<\/strong>Find out whether you qualify to Canada by completing our\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/immigration.ca\/fr\/formulaires-devaluation-gratuite-dimmigration\/\">free on-line evaluation<\/a>.
