Ontario Immigration Issues 7,391 Nominations In 2019

2020-01-14 – Ontario issued a total of 7,391 nominations through the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program in 2019, the province has announced.

The number includes the OINP’s initial allocation of 6,650, plus the 700 extra places offered by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada in December.

It also includes 41 nominations issued to intermediate skilled temporary foreign workers under the federal government’s NOC C initiative.

“The Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program has reached its increased 2019 nomination allocation and has started to notify successful applicants,” a provincial statement said.

It added: “New applications, and applications which have already been submitted to the OINP, will continue to be accepted and considered under the OINP’s 2020 nomination allocation.”

Ontario recently called on Canada’s federal government to double the allocation of provincial immigrants it receives each year.

Canada’s most populous province wants the Ontario Immigrant Nominee Program’s allocation to hit 13,300 by 2021.

The province recently launched a new Regional Immigration Pilot to bring more skilled immigrants to smaller communities.

Meanwhile, Ontario also issues Notifications of Interest to Express Entry candidates through three streams: 

• Human Capital Priorities,
• French Speaking Skilled Worker,
• Skilled Trades.

Ontario announced it would be starting Tech Draws in July, focused on six specific technology occupations:

1. Software engineers and designers (NOC 2173)
2. Computer programmers and interactive media developers (NOC 2174)
3. Computer engineers (NOC 2147)
4. Web designers and developers (NOC 2175)
5. Database analysts and data administrators (NOC 2172)
6. Computer and information systems managers (NOC 0213)

The draws are designed to address labour shortages in the technology sector in Canada’s largest province.

Candidates must meet existing HCP requirements as well as have work experience in one of the stated occupations.

The OINP also operates a separate Expression of Interest system for its Entrepreneur stream, through which NOIs are also issued.

There are five streams under which candidates can apply directly for Ontario nomination: Employer Job Offer (all three streams) and International Student (Masters and PhD Graduates).
